Not really troubleshooting...but anyway
can anyone recommend a good speaker system at a fair price? I'm looking for something less than 100 pounds.
oh and does any know how to change character keys on a keyboard. my inverted comma and @ keys are reversed for some reason.
um, you got the right keyboard setting? ie uk

thats a us setting.
I'm guessing your using xp or 2k, cos you have to change input locale on those during install.
Is easy to only change one setting, but you have to change 2.

You have the wrong regional settings, trust me on that - There are various versions of english in windows, you need to make sure your setting is English (British).

Definitely something with an Altec Lansing badge on them - they rock !!
Nip down to the shop for some demonstrations, but I would recommend the ACS56 for a really powerful bargain - these sound fantastic !
Or if it's looks you're after, check out the 2100s...
