I've got a Dell Optilplex gn case that the mobo has long since died in. The case is quite nice so would like to re-use it by just putting in a cheap PC Chips(or such like) mobo in with a Duron 900 or so cpu.

The problem that I foresee is that the on/off and reset switches are both micro switches mounted on a small PCB with a 10 wire ribbon cable connected to it and then the mobo. In addition to the ATX connector the mobo also has a single AT type connector (6 pins but 8 wires) on it that connects straight to the PSU.

Am I on a loser from the start or do you think it is possible to connect up a replacement mobo.

Cheers in advance.

it's normal Dell practise to try and deviate a little here and there so that you have to use Dell parts to get your machine running again.... bummer, huh? :(

hmm, if its like a gx 110 range case (desktop & midi tower) then it's a custom motherboard with a riser card for the expansion cards which rules out installing a "normal" atx mobo and having the cards in normally without a lot of case hacking or possibly a riser (as found in rackmounts).

Yes the case is the same as a GX110. The prefered mobo would be a PC Chips type with everything on board (was only intending to use it for surfing/office etc) so wouldn't be bothered about not being able to use any of the PCI slots.

I'm getting the impression that fitting an aftermarket mobo isn't going to be viable. Best bet methinks is to put a 'wanted' post up for a Dell mobo - you never know!!

Cheers anyway

This was a necropost and a half, and looked suspiciously like trading!

If this was an innocent mistake, PM Forthy. If not, ban stick will activate shortly
