View Full Version : Converting four pin fans?
hi guys,
i just want to know if it is possible to buy an adapter to make my four pin fans 3 pin so that i can control them with a fan controller, thanks for your help in advance :)
btw - where can i buy such an adapter if it does what i need
Just plug it into the fan controller as the last pint (Used for PWM) will not connect.
It will then just be like a normal 3-pin fan!

Alternatively... buy a few of these (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1902.html) :D
thanks for your helps guys, i don't underrstand what you mean koola; got any pics or something to explain it. And if i bought what fireblade suggests would it definitely let me use them in a fan controller?
cheers :)
That adapter is to allow you to run a 3-pin fan from a 4-pin molex not the other way round.
Fan controllers usually have a 3-pin plug as the output. Since that adapter also has a 3-pin plug you wouldn't be able to connect them.
are there any fan controllers that can use four pins plugins?
If you don't mind some DIY just buy some of these (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1989.html) and some of these (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1959.html) (or whatever colour you want) and make adapters yourself.
I assume that you have some spare 4-pin molexes you can chop up?

Or even better just cut the Molex plug off and fit the pins and block straight on. If the resulting lead is too short you could always use a fan extension cable.
