Hey ppl
Im chuffed with myself cause my 2600 barton is running at 2.48ghz on air cooling.. 40 deg idle (43 at the mo cause my fans are turned down).

wot sorta oc are similar peeps gettin??
Peace Out :D

can i ask what your cpu core voltage is at?
That is a nice overclock, can only manage just under 2.3ghz for mine :( (198fsb)

Cheers =)

How does it fair in benchmarking?

hey ppl,
i havn't changed the core voltage but according to mbm5 its running at 1.69v, as for benchmarks... name me a program and i will test it with it, i wouldnt expect anything record breaking because my ram is crap :(

Benchmark it with PC Bench v9.0 out of interest? I got mine to 2.32gMhz D'oh! :(

I seriously doubt that is stable.

Try sp2004 to test stability.

I haven't seen an XP2600-M stable at that sort of o/c with that low a voltage let alone a standard XP2600.

Mine is 2.32GHz @ 1.75V Prime stable. I can get to 2.43 @ 1.775V but it isn't Prime stable and I don't have a good enough HSF to put more volts through it.

Lol, well guys it is stable, i will post benchmark scores with screenies 2 prove it from nbench and sandra 2005.
Just so u know i use this machine evry day for everything (including playing games)
shall post when iv benched :)

Not that interested in benches, my 2500+ will bench at 2.43GHz but it isn't Prime stable.

Try sp2004 for stability testing.

My 2600 (non mobile) runs happily at just over 2.3 on air on stock volts (Asus MB stock that is - I hear that they overvolt slightly as standard). Generally stays around 33-37 (on what load I give it - not that much really). Have a 120mm fan on 5v blowing onto my 7000AlCu which is Q-fan'd. Haven't pushed it any futher.

hmm, well if it makes any difference i ran the burn in test 10 times on sandra.. i tried ur stability test but windows jus locks up solid as soon as i launch it, no bluescreens or reeboots tho...

DT1

LOL. Didn't think it was stable. SP2004 is just Prime95 with a different GUI.

And I would choose Prime95 over Sandra for stability testing any day of the week.

btw I think that you have good chip it's just that I don't think that it is 100% stable using that voltage.

You'd probably find that if you increased the voltage you could get that program to work.

hmm, i tried 2 up the voltage 1 notch and it wldnt boot, my overclocking is on hold jusnow cause iv frazzzled ma gfx card... oops.

Sorry to hear about the graphics card. :(

Just got this chip two days ago;

Atlon XP 2500+ Barton Mobile
2.43ghz 220fsb @ 1.93v on air

P95 stable (6 hours)

228x11.5 = 2736 - 1.83v baby

has done 3ghz + on someone elses phase now though

1.93v on air
1.93 on air, Ouch!

It's a bit loud for my liking but temps are ok, 45 idle 54 load. Should be a bit less now I’ve got the fans sped-up

ok got mine at 2.3ghz now (11.5 x 200) but had to put the voltage right upto 1.9v!

I'm a bit worried about this really, it sits about 50ish idle and running folding @ home it can go upto 57ish!

i have a Thermalright 947U with papst 3000rpm fan.

How can i bring the temps down? I'm thinking maybe i applied too much compound or maybe didnt apply it properly?

Any tips appreciated. cheers.

EDIT:
i have a vantec tornado but it does my head in, even on slow speed...
Also temps taken with MBM5

hey again people :D
Ma baby is back in action so the overclocking will resume as soon as iv sorted a little windows problem..
and btw, if you think its your thermal compound then buy this http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3706.html it is the best on the market!! (well thats my opinion anywayz)

I'd have to say that AS5 is about the only computer related purchase that doesn't get debated!

Personally I'd be shutting down my PC if it got to 57oC. 1.9v seems very high for air cooling - perhaps the hardcore clockers could give advice on it, but I'd avoid over 1.7v. I guess I'm lucky that mine does just a shade over 2.3 on a marginal (ASUS) overvolt.

Onnie

usually how many degrees does the AS bring the temp down by compared to normal compound?

jnm21

Nothing amazing - up to 5oC, depending on the previous thermal interface (pad, ceramic, fake silver ;), one with less silver, etc.) & how well both are applied.

when i changed the naff interface material io was using previously to as5 i noticed a fair difference, but i suppose it really depends on airflow in the case but mainly the condition of your heatsink (ie smooth surface) and the material its made from (you will see a big difference if you use a solid copper heatsink)

ahh sod it, im gonna let it burn.... Good excuse to get a 4400 x2 then =D

Had an AthlonXP 2000 on an MSI KM2M, not a great overclocking motherboard, but with some tollerant ram, I managed to squeeze the cpu to just shy of 2Ghz (to within about 2Mhz) using only FSB alterations (FSB was at 133, I had it running at 155) Now this was with SD Ram bought from Aria. Everything was at its default voltages. :D

I don't know whether or not it was prime stable, but even with heavy gaming it just kept on going.

The cpu was watercooled with a Thermaltake Aquarius 2 cooling kit, had an idle temp of 35C and at load 38C. That was with a single 80mm rad, a low flow pump and a low speed fan. Absolutely rock solid performance. And then the PSU died, killing it all.

Damnit!

Still, I wouldn't have gotten this Athlon64 setup if it hadn't... But damn I do miss that setup. It really did run so well

ok iv got the same heatsink but iv stuck a vantec tornado fan on it which i can control with my akasa fan pro. and we are oc'd @ 2.51ghz 1.80v

iv only benchmarked it sofar with prime 95 and it succesfully compleated it.. aint gonna run the torture test yet cause the chipset is getting a bit warmer so im gonna find a fan to stick on it.
Is it ok to run an athlon xp at that voltage??? (its the 2600 barton)

(time to update the sig  will get to that shortly)
