Hi,

http://www.freewebs.com/softshare/Heatsink%20Out.JPG

Thermalright XP-120

I have just bought this new heatsink, just looking for a 120mm fan to use for it... but i have a concren that most 120mm fans have a low RPM, anything between 1000 RPM - 2500 RPM...

My Question is that will alarms on my mother board go off if this RPM is below the threshold?

I have look in my BIOS and it doesn't have options to disable RPM warnings nor does it tell me what the threshold is (at least i couldn't see any of these options)

My mother borad is a DFI LanParty UT NF3 250GB and my CPU is Socket 754 AMD Athlon 64 3400+.

Any advice will be great and maybe people who also have 120mm fans or something similar will be able to give advice, thanks in advance for any help!

Really, so even if the fan has stopped spinning around it wont go off? thats very interesting.... if this is true then thats good news as this opens up a much wider range of fans i can get... im thinking of going for this (and maybe take out the LEDs)

19dBA isn't the quietest at all lol

Yeah your right, plus it doesn't move that much air at all "Air Flow: 37.44 CFM"... Im still looking for alternatives... Quietness isn't the most important thing for me, my case is kinda loud already...

Gave you considered an Akasa Ultra Quiet 120mm Amber (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_2591.html)?

Just 18.0dB(A) @ 1400rpm, yet pushing 44.8CFM, 'sounds' pretty decent t' me :D

I'm using that Akasa Amber fan and it is pretty good. Using it with my Shuttle SN45G. With my stock Sunon fan, it was pushing around 36CFM and was pretty loud. Average temp around 46C. Now I'm using this, much quieter, pushes over 40CFM and only average 40C temps. Yea, it rotates slower but it still pushes a lot of air.

Yeah looks like a decent fan but not sure on the looks TBH...

Does anyone know if the Aerocool Turbine Silver 120mm Quad Blue LED Fan is any good, think that would look good on the heatsink?

That Aerocool turbine would look excellent on the heatsink - have you considered the Thermaltake range of fans? I use the Thuderblades which kick out 78CFM (If I remember right) at 21dB.

However they have other fans which are adjustible from 17dB @ ~40CFM -> 90+CFM, which may be worth a go. If you have the cash you could buy a selection, then keep the one you like the best and flog the others :D

Yeah im thinking of getting one 80mm Amber and a 120 Amber for the heatsink.... The blackfire UV fan i have in the rear is very loud, so im hoping replacing that fan with an amber will reduce the noise a lot.

im using a nexus 120mm fan and its alot quiter than the silent x 120mm I have which claims a 12db noise leve whersas the nexus is claming 22.4db... I think most fan manufacturers lie about there fans specs and your best off with going by what people say bout fans and not their specs :)

I have to say you wouldent regret a nexus fan but mabey you might want more cfm wherupon I would recomend one of panflows fans. If you want insane airflow then get a 120mm focused flow delta and I can laugh at the blood coming from your ears *he he*

looks very nice although that fan grill will impede airflow and make it seem even noiser, but if you're happy with it then it's fine :)
