the FX coolers are great, and unless ur willing to remove the motherboard, nothing is gonna top it really tbh

No need to take of back bracket...main reason why i brought it. It preforms very well over stock on my 3000+ newcastle, but! i have the fan speed 3700, and its loud. But, i dont really dont mind it.
If noise is an issue then i wouldnt recommend it.

The FX55 heatsink is VERY good... and that Akasa one wont be much better...
Ive seen 3ghz+ out of the stock cooler...

2 simple solutions for better cooling and less noise, but will require you to take the motherboard out of your case and fit.
Zalman 7700CU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64.
Go with the arctic cooling :)

In CustomPC magazine last month Akasa AK-913 swept the rest of the board, about 15 coolers including all above mentioned. I believe it just clips in and they measured up to -17 C difference comparing to stock cooler and over -10 C difference under full load.
It is a great magazine, I would trust those guys.
I am using Thermalright XP-120 (clips in) with SilenX 120 mm fan (always on full speed) on my XP 4000+ which is great for noise (or lack of it) and still get CPU temp as 42 C as I write and it never goes above 50 C on the full Prime95 (and others) load.
If you worry about the size of XP-120 then don't, I've got the same MB as you do.

Got the Akasa myself, have also used the XP120.
Unfortunately I cant compare as my latest motherboard (Soltek SL-K890-939) doesnt read my temps properly (so it seems). Idling at 52 apparently (3800 venice @ 2.64Ghz). On my A8N-SLI it idled at about 38.
To be quite honest, due to the use of a 120mm noiseblocker fan I found my XP120 to be better. Unless these temp issues get sorted out, I dont think I can properly compare.
Opsss, just remembered XP-120 clips in but I had to change square plastic base with the one provided. Two screws only but motherboard had to be taken out first.
