View Full Version : How can i get just that little bit extra ?
Hey peeps..
Basically i think im on the limits of my computer, but is there anyway i can get that little bit extra from my 3dmark scores ?
Cpu is at 3.3 and wont budge past that at all....
Graphics are on the limit as any higher i get artifacts...
Ive downloaded the lastest/modified nvidia drivers for the card...
Dunno what to do now, any little tweaks or anything to let me get a few more marks on 3dmark ?
Cheers!

which windows ?
do an nlite install of windows 2k if you can, get rid of EVERYTHING except the necessary... then when about to bench, close ALL programs, CTRL+ALT+DEL and end EVERY task you can...
then bench
otherwise, do nlite to XP or whatever your on and do the same... dual boot ideally...
Im on xp pro sp2, whats nlite ? :o

Sometimes when you close a service your not meant to the system goes down for a reboot. It gives you 30 seconds warning that it's gonna reboot I think. It's a good idea to have "shutdown -a" readying in the run box (or a command window) to abort the reboot if you get the wrong serivce.
Dude if you shut down a service you wern't meant to nothing bad happens at all. You just push the reset button.
nLite is a tool that lets you install windows without the bloat, such as internet explorer, theaming, etc etc...
But if you've got everything as far as you say you have, the thought should be occouring that your PC is running as fast as it can allready.
dunno how, but i played around with the bios, now got 4.05ghz. i could go much more i reckon, but the pwm temp gets too high on my abit board. chuffed i hit 4 gig tho!!
for higher score... overclock the cpu/vga more basically... :D
add a fan over the cpu mosfets area, and improve your vga's cooling for higher gpu/gpu mem frequencies without artifacts ;)
hope this helps for a start,
B
