How do you remove your startup ans shutdown screens to get a faster boot and shutdown
well, in windows 95 thru 98se, they were called
logo.sys
logos.sys
logow.sys
cant remember what each one does, but 2 are in the windows directory and the other on the root of the installations hard disk.
Cant remember about win me cos i didnt use it for long. Unsure about where the win 2k/xp startup screen is (if it is an image?), havent had time to look for that.
Hope that helps!

What so you delete these files
i doubt it will do improve bootup and shutdown speeds...
with windows xp u have to use resource hacker (or similar) to edit the ntoskrnl.exe file to change the screens..
unless u are wanting to change the screens to another image etc... then i would just leave them where they are... and look and cleaning up the boot process itself rather than the boot image!

How do you clean up the boot up process
start by checking what programs are being loaded during the boot process
a good tool for this is start>run>msconfig
that will tell u the processes and services that are started during boot.
the screens dont take long to load, miliseconds.
Your main concern is the files/programs loaded on startup, take away xtras like things in the taskbar (realplayer etc) they take up resources and are slow to load.

Ive got windows me what are the screens calle in then and if you want to get rid of them do you just delets then as i have just about nothing in my startup folder
i didn't meant the startup folder in the start menu... i was talking about the msconfig app that tells u the services that are starting... if u have nothing in there then i would be slightly surprised...
i wouldn't recommend deleting the startup images as this won't achieve anything at all.. except maybe your OS not starting up as it can't find the logo.sys file!!
the best (and easiest) way to speed up your boot on 2k/XP is to download bootvis.exe from microsoft - it's a wee proggie that analyses your boot and adjusts it to the quickest possible. It knocked a good 20 seconds off my boot :)
