my motherboard (Abit KT7)and video card (Matrox G400) died the other day, slowly!

I switched on and it POSTed 1 bleep then the screen went blank, drive light stuck on, this happened repeatedly, checked cables and eventually disconnected everything 'cept vid and mobo, mem and cpu, still the same. Then had to leave for college. When I got back I tried again, this time it was different! it was completely dead. Tried another mobo, the mem & cpu were fine but discovered G400 was also dead!

Any Ideas what happened to my beloved pieces of kit? :(

I had a problem more or less the same as yours once. I had an nVidia Geforce2 MX400 64mb TV/O and it burned out. I reckon that you don't have enough cooling in your case and that the graphics card is to close to other cards. When this happened I bought another case fan and modded my graphics card to take a fan instead of a heatsink when i got a new one.

You sayed that you thought your Mobo was dead. Did you know that for sure or suspect because when that happened to me i thought the mobo was gone but thankfully it was just the graphics card. How would you get a bios beep if the mOBO had broke.

m/board was still giving me an ok bleep in the morning, then freezing (couldn't even get into the bios setup. I had to go to college so I left it. When I tried it later it was totally dead!! I tried cpu,mem and v/card in another mobo and v.card was dead too!! (1 long bleep 3 short)

It was working fine the previous evening, my wife switched it off before bed, no sign of any probs at all.

Dunno 'bout cooling probs though, case temp 37c cpu temp 42c average with that system and i had a slot blower in pci 1 to take the heat from the v/card, front and rear case fans and 2 fans in the psu. Worst of all - I wasn't even overclocking!!!!!
