View Full Version : SV24 Problem

Hi Guys,
Just got myself a SV24 to play around with and a Celeron 1.20Ghz to go with it. The problem I am having is that the system is completely dead no graphics, no POST and no keyboard lights. In the distance past I sort of remember that Intel (bless them) were going to change the Celeron processor so that a new chipset is required to run them. Can anyone give me anymore information on this? I dont have any other processor to plug in and try so fault finding is a tad tricky any suggestions?
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,
I've got an SV24 up and running with a 1.10GHz Celeron, 512Mb RAM, 64Mb Geofroce 2 MX 400 PCI card. It's running sweetly ... if a little warm :), the onboard gfx worked ok too on 1st boot but was slow.
It sounds like your problem could be one of the following:-
a/ CPU not seated correctly or dead (arrgghh)
b/ CPU fan plugged into wrong motherboard fan pins (should be the furthest one from S370! ie. the one in the corner of the board)
c/ SDRAM not seated correctly
d/ PSU dead or connector not in properly
Try b/ first then if no joy try re-seating SDRAM, PSU plug etc.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know :)
Good Luck
Let us know how you get on
Dai
PS
e/ check fuse in "kettle lead" !!!!
Thanks aPe2 for pointing out some spellnin mistakes

not really to the point, but dai do you really have a 1.1MHz celeron?!?

hmm, we've only used up to a 1000 chip so far in sv24... could you beg , borrow or scrounge an older celeron from a friend (even a 400 or something) and try that?

Graeme the 1.1GHz works fine, so the 1.2 should too.
In fact you've seen mine working a few times!
Dai
It runs on a 100MHz system bus just like the 1.2

Thanks Guys,
Will have a play and let you know.

Tried the processor and RAM both sitting okay. Heatsink fan is connected okay (have used the Intel supplied HS & Fan bit tight but fits okay). The power supply powers up and down okay and the processor heatsink warms up a little when sitting.
My main machine is a P4 so I can not swap the processor or RAM over to fault find. Does anyone have a cheap Celeron for sale ?
Pentium 4 uses a totally different socket design and memory (unless you have a SDRAM mobo), so you wouldn't be able to transfer over either. Also the SV24 is not designed for such hot processors and it probably wouldn't work anyway even if you could, :) From what I remember the SV24 supports Coppermine Celerons, but not Tualatin Celerons...
Got this from Intel
"Level 2 Cache: 128 KB Advanced Transfer Cache on frequencies 1.10 GHz and below.
256 KB Advanced Transfer Cache on the 1.20 GHz frequency parts"
Which means Dai's 1.1GHz is Coppermine core and Mike's 1.2Ghz is Tualatin and not supported.

Yes I had a prob like this before. Check that your graphics card hasn't blown or if your graphics chip isn't knackerd. To test it get an old g card and shove it in. Worked for me. If the graphics card is blown you usually dont get any bios beeps or a 00 post code.
But the sv24 has onboard graphics ?
It wont be the ram or the graphics or beep codes would come up I have had the graphics card not seated properly (Well at all ) And it just gives out the beeps as normal on my SV24.
Sounds like its either a too hot cpu which is cutting before its blown , check the cooling on it. Or a completly blown cpu :(

SV24 is definitely not for Tualtin CPUs , I know that much... I wasn't sure about the new Celeron 1.2 because we hadn't had one in before...

Looks like the wrong processor then ! Anyone what to buy/swap a Celeron 1.2 ?
Thanks for the info

Hi Mike,
it's sounds like JStormont found the answer to your problem, the 1.1 Celery I've got then appears to be the fastest you can go.
I wonder what he fastest PIII would be?
Graeme and Thomas had a 1GHz PIII in theirs and that worked fine.
I've got an old 433MHz Celeron (66MHz FSB x 6.5) that you could have for £15 inc P&P, but I suppose you'd want something a little faster than that?
Keep us posted on how you get on, the little beast is worth it.
Cheers
Dai
Ironically my old sv24 has just thrown a wobbly in the same way it powers up with all the fans etc , but nothing shows on the monitor and no beep codes either . I was there the first time , I took at the pci graphics card and reset the cmos and it booted fine however as soon as I left my mate started it up and it did the same thing ??? Any idea's ?
Mine has a P3 1Ghz in it , thats the hightest u can go I think ?
Maybe this will help
Celeron to 1.1 gig is coppermine (FCPGA)and has 128 cache
Celeron 1.2 and higher is tulatin (FCPGA2) and 256 cache (like p3)
Pentium 3 to 1 gig is coppermine (FCPGA) with 256 cache
Pentium 3 1.13 and 1.26 coppermine (FCPGA) with 256 cache
Pentium 3 1.13 and 1.2 tulatin (FCPGA2) and 512 cache
All coppermine (FCPGA)should work on that or any socket 370 boards, its the tulatin that has the newer FCPGA2 socket layout
Rumor has it that shuttle are making a p4 socket478 board for the cool running northwood P4
added
P4 socket 423 williamette 256 cache
P4 socket 478 williamette 256 cache to 2 gig
P4 socket 478 northwood 512 cache some 2 gig all 2.2 and up
