Quite a week for the Reds. Humiliated on the pitch by Chelsea and now this.

LOL LOL LOL

Correct me if I'm wrong but United have long been listed on the stock market and their success over the last decade is largely based on their successful commodification of the game (Who had a Megastore first? Who started regarding fans as customers?).

It just remains to point out the bleeding obvious: Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Can't wait for the breathless Andy Gray to welcome us to the Dunkin Donuts soccerdome ...

Personally I think it's bloody hilarious :p I hate Manchester United, not sure why but there's hatred! They take away all the people from watching their local club e.g. Rochdale. Now this means maybe Rochdale will have increased crowds next season. I think United fans are stupid, burning shirts and season ticket renewal sheets :p I mean if they were REAL SUPPORTERS they wouldn't care who was working on the board. United are scum, thats that :D

DALE FOR PROMOTION!!

(P.S. Hope you like your £300,000,000.00 debt United :p )

I don't hate United (I have family members who support them) but I feel that they, more than any other club, have driven the commercialisation (and loss of soul) in football.

It's some kind of justice that the system they were so keen to create has come back and bitten them on the bum.

Being a United fan I'd have to disagree. Their success over the past decade has been based on a few players that you may have heard of. Bring on youth players like Nevilles, Scholes, Beckham, Giggs. Put a few signings in the mix, Cantona, Keane, Schmeichel and you've got the base of the team.

Something that has just occured to me, since United started splashing the cash, (Veron, Kleberson etc) we've not won a whole lot. Maybe there is a lesson there, who knows?

I'm trying not to form an opinon on MG as of yet. But the media coverage does not make him seem too attractive... :( I can't see him changing many names tbh, United is a successful brand already.

Yeah, Man U had that golden crop from the youth squad - but those just come along once in a blue moon and someone gets lucky - it was you that time. Showing my age here but I went to Uni in Manchester and was at Old Trafford when they won the youth cup in '92 - both the Neville's, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Butt and some fella called Robbie Savage played for United that day. Where are they now? :p

I guess you're aware the Scholes, G Neville and Butt played together in the same boys team in Oldham - I've heard tales of them winning 37-0 with Scholes getting 7 headers (he must have been all of 2' tall!) - so something special was brewing before Man U had any involvement. Londoner Beckham was a know prospect coveted by loads of clubs - it's was Man U's financial clout in relocating his whole family to Manchester that made him their youth player. Youth players must live within 90 minutes drive of their club.

Who has come through the ranks since? Wes Brown and John O'Shea promised alot but aren't in the same class as the '92 lot. The only young players you have that look as good are Rooney and Ronaldo, Rooney being the 3rd highest transfer in British history. 1 and 2? They would be Veron and Rio to Man United. Ruud wasn't cheap. Keane was a transfer record when they got him from Forest. The Pallister and Stam transfers were records for defenders at the time.

They only real bargains that I can think of were Schmeichel, Dennis Irwin and Steve Bruce. Cantona was a bargain, but only because dear old mad Eric had fallen out with Leeds and they knew they had to sell him.

Man U have spent alot on players throughout the last decade - the serendipity of the great youth team just masked that for a bit.

The problem for me is that Man U have undeniably changed the way football is run, raised the bar you might say. And the result? The kind of businesses that only care about profit are now in charge. This could be the beginning of the end of football as we know it. And United fans have been leading the way chanting 'Campiones, campiones' for the last 10 years.

It's well known that Glazer thinks he can make money by negotiating United's TV rights separately - the only way he can do that is to form a breakaway league - and the only breakaway league big enough to satisfy his greed will not be an English league - it'll be European in the 1st instance and global ultimately. Don't be surprised if your franchise moves to a foreign city with a better market demographic ... Beijing United anyone?

Firstly- i don't wish death on anyone !

But if glazer screws up this club, then i would personally want to string him up in the centre of Old Trafford !!!

But im going to wait and see what he does first, but from what iv been hearing, it doesn't sound too good

To be honest, i cannot see Man Utd fans problem with it - I mean are they against their team being invested in and improved or something?

Glazer has promised 20 million this summer on transfers, which is 20 million more than David Gill has promised to give to Fergie.

Man Utd are only against it because of xenophobia and fear of getting better. I mean its ludicrous how they bang on about being "the best club in the world". Not even the second best in England, more like.

kind of wrong there ninnyhammer :o United are going to end up with a £300million debt. Reason being Glazer borrowed A LOT of money from banks to buy the club so the debt is going to be put on United :D And just for the record Rochdale just signed Jon Boardman from Woking ;)

I doubt United will have money to play with in the summer, doesn't matter really anyway though because ferguson only buys strikers :p

i think the main problem the suppoters have is it being someone from the US. not a local investor....

according to certain tabloids, Glazer's first task will be to rename 'owl trafford' to the NIKE ARENA :D LMAO
