EVIL PROBLEM:
Every time I run Max Payne it loads the tutorial fine (and runs at an insane FPS) but if I try to run the actual game, it crashes into windows while it is loading, I have the ltest drivers for everything, latest update of Windows and the setup runs every other game fine. There is no mention of this problem anywhere on the Max Payne site - HELP!!! (Please)

Too things you have to consider with this problem;

1. Max wasnt tested on WinXP and therefore there is no guarentee that it will work

2. It aint been tested with the the 8500 although it obviously runs to a certain point.

Have u tried dropping the detail to the minimum and also the following switches at the command line ?

-nodialog: Skips the Max Payne startup dialog when loading the game.

-skipstartup: Skips the startup animation.

-disable3dpreloads: If the system runs out of texture memory while loading a level, this option may prevent the game from crashing due to a driver error.

I have similar Max Payne problem with XP and a Hercules Prophet 4500 Kyro II. Dropping the detail allows the tutorial to run but dropping everything will not allow the game to run. Oddly, XP has now ceased to function. The boot up screen with the running green lights comes up and stays up! Bloody Microsoft!!

can I ask, no beg everyone not to touch XP. It is the worst OS i've ever seen. My dad bought it for 120 quid and installed it - thinking that all his stuff whould still be there - and guess what? ALL GONE!!! and another thing, it sends a log of everything you do to Himself and if you have any ripped games or software they'll "Take action". I.E go blabbing to the "Althority" involved. they also have the worst driver support and reliability I have EVER EVER known about.

DIE MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey ''homhomhom''
''Windows XP'' aint half as bad as you think it is. Infact its the best OS arround not to mention the best looking by far. About the ''system log file'' you can turn that feature off, anyways it does'nt send any of the type of data that you're thinkin. Microsoft ar'nt bothered if you have pirate software or anything like that on your system. I should know i've been usin xp for as long as i've had my system (about 4 months}. ;)

keep trying with XP and you'll warm to it. At least you get the chance to send a bug report rather than the dreaded BSOD of earlier MS OSs, and its nice to look at! :)
