I am really starting to get p'ed off with the amount of RnB and hip hop in the charts, a few years ago i can remember the charts being dominated by a wide selection of genre's. Now all i hear on the radio is a bunch of blokes shouting hey hoooo and rapping about how hard life is in the hood! or going on about sex **** and guns! its like america has moved into the uk as well as iraq!
where has all the trance dance hard house tunes gone? all i hear is the old trance/dance tunes being played, like make some new song's and get the RnB crud back to the other side of the pond!
Sorry to the RnB fans out there, just really had to get that off my chest!
It's the way tastes and music have evolved i think matey (or de-evolved whichever way you look at it). I guess the 90's were the dance genre's prime, and we have now moved away from a market of pillheads, teeny boppers and S-Clubs, and have a youthful society of pimps, homeys and few goths in there for good measure. Tha dance music that comes out is almost all covers or pretty rubbish compared to the prime age Ibiza tunes during the 90's. Shame about the lack of decent new dance music, artists don't seem to be able to move on from 'castles in the sky' type songs.
I guess the only guys buying records are pimp-dogs, but from what i have heard the singles chart will be dropped within the next ten years or so anyway due to lack of purchasers. In america their music is very highly dominated by RnB, i guess we are slowly going the same way unfortunetly.
unless you are a 12 year old girl, chart music is crap, and always has been. Its not something thats just come about recently, its always been rubbish, just a different type of rubbish from year to year.

those were the days, ibiza tunes! music has lost its uplifting feel to it these days.
castles in the sky was a bit cheesy! but never the less it didnt promote guns, drugs, sex or anything bad in my view, just look out for low flying castles, lol
its so poop in america, 21 to drink and smoke, guns all over, have to pay to see the doctor, and unfortunatly it looks like its going the same way over here! where will be safe from the american dream? AAAARRRGGGGHHHH * pulls rest of hair out!

hear what your saying dunc, but on a fri or sat night you used to get pumping tunes all evening on radio1 or local radio, now its just cRAP and Hip plop! cant us british music artists do any better than copying the yanks? where are the tiesto and marco v of today?
Being young and all, I have noticed a change in what people seem to find acceptable to listen to, just going back a couple of years, you wouldn't have been able to see half of these albums with out big "parental concent, explicit lyrics" stickers on the cases, and if you were a kid trying to buy it, you could get a half ounce easier than you could get one of these album.
But now, as my music taste has ... matured slightly, I can't help but notice all these neds, being able to go in and freely buy these albums, and some of them aren't even 12... what sort of parents are there going to be in 5 years time, when all these 12 year old girls are now mothers of 4 and stuff like that? the world is going to rot from the outside in (or maybe its just the UK but I can't see that)... and it sickens me to think about it.
And a partually irrelavant question, why do so many white people want to be black now? honestly, white rappers? bling? Just doesn't appeal, so I really don't see the sense in it.

been so disillusioned with the flood of junk on the radio at work that when i get home i put on winamp and listen to a station playing the music i like, so i havet really listened to normal radio on the evenings much since i got broadband a year ago. Judge jules is ok i guess, a bit to main stream for me, if u know what i mean. pearce is ok too. I would like to see more new faces and more new trancy hard house music.

i'm more of a radio1 - blue room man meself! always ahead of the scene and always fresh. always wake up early at the weekend for it :)
ps. also i think that since the sad demise of the great Mr P radio1 seems to be playing a greater selection of music. Maybe it's just me but DJ's seem to be trying to play more new stuff, even on some prime time shows!

Ahhh chart music, homies and their pimpin' ways can be quite annoying, i really don't get the obsession with all that at all. Seeing someone like 50 cent on an interview is funny as hell, "yea me and me homies been getting it down..."
I reckon when he get's home it's more like 'ahh get the kettle on mum, i've had such a hard day i could do with a brew..."

Exactly. Although I will say it's a bit worse now. At least they played different types of rubish. Now it's just the same generic black music, with a token bit of bland indie thrown in every now and again.
Anyway, if you don't like it then don't listen to it. The charts are driven by 13 year olds at the end of the day. Get a DAB radio and listen to 6 Music during the day and radio one at night. Or buy CD's.

The addition of itunes and co downloads into the singles charts should address this to some extent. Theres still a fair amount of RnB but the charts for downloads often look completely different to their physically purchased counterparts.

ah yes the download chart, i have never looked at it as i thought it was basicly the same as the normal charts, will have to have a gander...........

Lets face it 'music' quality peaked around the 198Os. The Punk new wave movement was really the last good new music.Since then quality has been scarce. We mostly know who the Beatles were, we know who the Sex Pistols were. Possibly, we'll remember who Oasis were in 15 years time. As for Fiddy Cent and wassisname Hammer; who the hell will know who they were in 5 or 6 years? [or maybe months even] :)

Times change,
<80s = Rock
90s = Trance
00s = RnB
It'll just have its stint and something new will come in, ive been into trance all my life, it really kicked of in 1996 and started to thin out in the charts in 2003 and now its bassically none existant, this is because it was mainly uplifting instrumental + vocal trance that to many people they had never experianced before. After a while people get bored plus that massive dirty anthem trance isnt really being produced now...
Plus now i dont have to have someone down my back saying, the record im playing is really good1!!111
Anyway trance is dead within the masses, but dont worry its still around :)

80s 90s rock is t3h r0x0rs Even some 70s rock was good. When I was a teenager and ever since, I've always thought that chart music was mainly crap with some obvious exceptions. Nothin' lately has inclined me to change my mind.
Probably 'cause most real Rock bands concentrated on albums; and hence the album charts were admittedly a different story. Since the 85s - 90s music generally has been going in a steady downhill direction, IMO. [eg. freakin frog no 1....nuff said!]

RnB is just computer generated beats with scantily clad women bouncing up and down singing the same lyrics over and over again.....yay
im all for the 80s and 90s :)

I don't think people really remember but chart music has always been pointless tat.
I have to say though that i quite like ghetto gospel, even though i don't really like tupac.

Stay away from those chart songs!
I was flicking through channels a while back and happeded to notice this music video on MTV that was basically the same 30 second tune played over and over until the song ended - all the while showing close up shots of a woman doing aerobics. Sheesh... I thought MTV stands for music television. If I wanted to see some womans clevage theres more channels for that ;)
99% of them suck and thats all that is on the radio most of the time :( Middlesbrough has the crappiest radio in the country...
Result = I dont listen to the radio.

While we're on the subject of MTV. Why do the cameramen and producers get the idea that we want to see 1 second shots at different angles flashing backwards and forwards in some sort of stupid time with the music.[so called]

For me, music went downhill from the early nineties.
In the eighties ( showing my age a bit now :) ), the competition to win the top ten records in the charts on Radio 1 was actually worth winning. I usually liked at least 7 of the songs.
In the nineties, that dropped to 4 or 5, because the charts then were full of boy bands, or groups for kids, like S-club 7. There were still some good songs from Oasis and other big bands, but they were getting thin on the ground.
Now it' s down to 1 or 2, most weeks none at all. Now we get crap like crazy frog popping up. You could ignore it, and say if people want to waste their money on it, it' s up to them, BUT, the people in the music industry will see this as a sign that people will buy anything, so prepare for something even worse to come.
The quality has gone out of music these days, it' s now just about making easy money. How long would that crazy frog song take to make, couple of days ? Compare that to proper bands that take years to write albums and you can see the effort involved in making crap.
I don' t even bother watching Top of the pops anymore because there' s just so much rubbish on there. New bands like Coldplay and indie bands are still coming through, so at least I still have SOMETHING to listen to. If it was' nt for these, I' d only have my record collection to listen to. Good thing CD' s don' t wear out...

I only listen to century mainly, or sometimes Radio2 (if someone good like jonathan ross is on) as they play queen, blondie, oasis etc... stuff generally listenable to most of the day...
as TFM, Galaxy, even the BBC ones are pap... its all some guy who just has a first name, like Edmond, Mario, Akorn, usher and other random people... all R&B ****...

The last time i bought a single i was 12.....
The charts is just all the sales buy 12 year olds and such... Hence how "Crazy Frog" ever got to number 1 (either that or its all rigged)
rap annoys the hell out of me. the music is all exactly the same with just a different black man (no racism intended) shouting about how hard life is, about how amazing he is or how many girls he has. give it a rest and try actually making some music instead of just shouting some crappy overdone lyrics.
the one which annoys me the most atm is Acorn or Akron or whatever his name is. the same friggin song with a differnt high pitched squealing voice for the chorus. its all the 13/14 year olds thinking they are tough as nails cos they buy rap music, wake up!! it isnt good!

I agree with you... I like some hip hop stuff, but this tends to be more chilled out and less hard rap.... I don't like Eminem anymore, always singing about how bad things are blah blah blah, i don't buy it, he has more money than a small country and is still complaining. Give it a rest or find a new angle i say.
People like Akon will enjoy their 15 Min's of fame and then we wont hear from the again!

Do you know what i think is ****ing ridiculous, that stupid "ghetto gospel" song with 2PAC and Elton John.
Now honestly would a black gangster rapper from L.A be doing a duet with a Gay 50 year old English singer if he had any say in it? I don't think so!

I don't have a problem with Ghetto Gospel, but I agree that more genres should be played. It's too monotonous now, with all this pop crap.

Your right, there are some amazing bands/songs out there (people with talent, can actually play a musical instrument etc) that never make it to the top ten or get as much air play as some Will Young Crap. (Don't get me started on Will Young, for one he is Gay and sings about women  )

The music on the radio round here sucks - local radio stations are all pop/r&b and complete garbage like that. The only one thats not bad half the time is Century.
I really dont like listening to pop/hip hop/r&b and mostly turn the radio off unless someone is listening to it.
Middlesbrough sucks sometimes - full of chavs...

Just what i said on the last page (im from Co Durham btw)
Century is the ONLY real radio station in the area... others are more like beatbox stations of AWFUL tunes
one of the worst i heard was Sweet Child O' Mine, fairly awesome original by G N' R, but this was a "dance cover" - since when can you dance to dance music  - of some woman who obviously cant sing (made into a fast, high pitch squeal) with duh, duh, duh in the background... i can picture it being played in Corsas, Novas and Fiestas with spoilers all over the country

btw. soz never read the last page until now - too lazy
Most of the albums i buy nowdays are imported from Germany - they got some good bands over there - not just Rammstein, although they are great as well. My friend has also got me into romanian stuff recently  (i know i know, but better than galaxy or tfm by far...)

Tbh the chart atm is total crap, as everyone has said. Why don't a load of rockers and a load of goths and a load of punks just gate crash TOTP, and maul the performers!
its all ja rule's fault.
look i think your pigeonholing a bit mate, YES i love my hip hop - BUT there is a BIG difference between hip hop and the ****e that kiss 100 play all day or that mtv are blastin, most of the stuff in the charts is dog****e, most of the house music and trance you speak of was dog**** too, regurgitated immitations of late 80's /early 90's classics, pure euro-cheese.
