View Full Version : Abit KT7 Raid - CPU speeds
Help, I have finally taken the plunge, left the safety of the Intel world and am getting a 1.2Ghz athlon. Question is, my 2nd hand Abit KT7 mobo book says speeds up to 1GHz. Will it run my 1.2GHz athlon?

Yeah no problem Alan,
just set the multiplier to 12 x
in the BIOS, if you do th e"pencil trick" on the CPU, you'll be able to overclock it to maybe 1.33 or 1.4 etc, increase the "core voltage" to 1.8v or higher to get it stable, and I/O voltage up a notch or 2 too.
Make sure cooling is good.

Thanks Dai, but how do you use 133MHz ram with this board? - Set User specified, pick 133MHz and a multiplier of 9? - Will that work. At 100FSB and 12 x multiplier, the motherboard sensors already record 1.85v. Is that a bit high?
I guess I'll just have to experiment. :)

Alan,
for 133MHz SDRAM you have to set the RAM speed to Host_Clk + PCI (bottom of BIOS page one) to get 133MHz.
It doesn't matter what multiplier you've set for the CPU, UNLESS you are overclocking FSB !
It's the KT7 you have not the KT7A?

Thanks for that Dai. In the meantime I have used a multiplier of 12 with an FSB of 110 giving a nice 1,320MHz which, with a Hercules Prophet 4500 gives me a 3D Mark 2000 score of 5,015. The CPU temperature, after running the 3D Mark 2000 demo three times, was 40 C which seems not bad for an Athlon!
I'll try your suggestion tomorrow.
Cheers
