I'm in a bit of a dilemma with regards to two athlon 64 chips.

I have 2 athlon 64 3200 s754 cpu's. I am not sure which one to keep. CPU 1, can't overclock unless i put about 1.825 volts through it. The highest clock i can get is 2.4ghz, with 240 fsb, and 10 multiplier. This is at 1T.

Now with CPU 2, I can reach 2.30ghz, with 230 fsb and 10 multiplier. Again this is at 1T, the only difference is, it does this oc at 1.5 volts!!

This is the dilemma, the first cpu which needs higher volts is running at the same temp as the 2nd cpu at 1.5v For some wierd reason, even though the 2nd cpu runs at a lower voltage it runs at alot higher temps.

Both of these cpus are in a dfi lanparty 754 ut board.

Also, for this setup what would one recommed for ram. I have 2 x 512mb stick of corsair xms 3500 v1.1 bh5 chips. And have the option to swap for 2 x 512mb ocz 3700 EB chips.

Which ram would give me a better performance?

Sell em both and get the Socket 754 Sempron 3100+ E core which overclocks like hell!!!

Theres are review on Xbit labs

OVerclocks like hell but it isn't as powerfull as the 64 bit cpu.

3700EB is excellent but your XMS 3500 will run tighter if you max the Vdimm .

In the review they got it upto 4000+ speeds and was beating them on a lot of benchmarks?

Can actually see the review due their site being hacked.

Well, I'm currently running 3.1 Volts through the corsair, and have timings of 2.5-3-3-8.

I think I will just stick with the 2nd cpu which gives me a higher clock at lower voltage. And when everyone is upgrading to 939, will try to pick up a cheap 3700+ clawhammer.

.

BH-5 will run 2-2-2- at 230 (heck 250+) but you need more Vdimm than 3.1V

I think the highest Vdim I can get is 3.3-3.4? Thats the highest the DFI allows anyway.

Will probably then try for those timings.

I seriously doubt the processors are running at the same temperatures with such a huge difference in voltage. In fact, I'm almost certain they aren't. I'd look for a newer BIOS if I were you.

Either way, it seems chip 2 has more overclocking headroom to me, given that it was on only 1.5 V.

I'm gonna try reseating the heatsink. I'm using an xp-120 which can be quite tricky to seat without creating any air bubbles in the arctic silver. That may be the cause of the high temps. Not entirely sure though.
