I like Athlete, does anyone else like them and how do you rate them??

I don't like them, and I'm sick of hearing "Wires" everywhere. Although it's the only one of theirs that I've heard, and should proabably hear more, I don't rate them at all.

They're great, and it's nice they're more recognised now.

Vehicles and Animals is still my fave track !

re 'wires' , I think it's a common issue - radio plays the same set of 'current' songs and if you tune in a lot you seem to be hearing the same songs all the time. Can be easy to get sick of them !

They are one of the few band's I like (I'm an electro boy at heart). Good live too.

I've been a a fan of their stuff for a while now. That said, I don't own their new album because i'm not sure (from what i've heard so far) that it's going to be anything different from their previous stuff.

I'm not a fan of albums that all sound the same - Coldplay are an example of this. I hated their last album because it was nothing new and at points i couldn't tell you which of their albums i had on.

Just found out Athlete are from Deptford, nice to see a decent London based band :D

Wires is a very powerful song and on a subject I've never heard anyone sing about before, although I'm sure somebody has.

For a start "Joe", your post was nothing to do with the topic of this thread......
As for Nirvana, there allright but the future bands totaly rule them out the game, and since they can't write songs anymore.... So, they can't come back.... Joe get over it...

i disagree with you...

listen to polly, something in the way, serve the servants, very ape etc... EXTREMELY well written songs, some poignant, others very sarcastic and critical of society

even bands i quite like now, kasier chiefs, keane etc cant touch them IMO...

Bob Dylan, one of the greatest song writers ever, said kurt cobain was the best writere hed ever seen (heard ?)...

And civil war is IMO one of the best songs ever written ... "would you wear a black armband, if they shot the man who said 'peace could last forever' " ... genius

for me itd be a toss up between Nirvana and Guns N' Roses... both very unstable bands for various reasons... both completely different to anything preceding them, or after...

both will undoubtedly go down in history as my generation's greatest bands... name one band since that has made that big an impact...

youve got Appetite For Destruction, released 1986 and still sells 20k copies a week worldwide, and Nevermind, undoubtedly one of the best albums ever, the 3rd biggest selling album ever (over time) iirc, and the top 2 (thriller and bat out of hell) were released WAYYY before..

Watch Guns N' Roses or Nirvana perform live and its electric, watch Kasier Chiefs and its meh, sounds the same as the album, nothing special...

I think people just forget how good these bands are :p

you kno your problem jake, you only like the bands most people like, e.g fuu fighters or red hot chill peppers, your always saying to me in school,at ur house etc that nirvana are amazing, then when ur on internet you contradict, nirvana has made more of a impact on history than ur fav bands will ever do

nope wrong... they sold more afterwards, but were critically acclaimed worldwide before... Nevermind Knocked MJ off the #1 spot in the charts and at the time, MJ was easily selling anything he made...

nobody heard of jesus (not saying hes real or whatever) till he died now did they ;)

on a side note... anyone seen the video to "you could be mine" ? its awesome :D

I personally am bored of nirvana due to complete overuse, but there is no way you can say nirvana are inferior to any band since simply because unlike a lot of bands, they do have things to sing about due to kurts hard life, and intelligence, and they changed music for ever. I cannot say, because it hasn't happened yet, but i don't think most popular present bands are going to have nearly the same impact.

They say the same thing about tupac as he too is a legend and it's about time you realise that whatever you say isn't going to change the fact they are more known and respected a decade after death than in life

the only downside is that he was a smack head and married a psycho b*tch who used him for fame and then got him killed, either by pushing him to kill himself or hiring that hitman for $10 000

It's said all the time these days.....such and such is a legend
Its completely overused, I don't think any of them can be called legends until they've been around for a while.......like 25 years. The same applies to so called "greatest hits" albums from bands who've never written a decent song in their lives....some bring their greatest hits out after about two years. Its a joke....and an insult to the real legends.

Sorry for the hijack got carried away :)

Basement Jax for example... all rubbish, but a greatest hits is out...

in fairness, its greatest not great, so if the best theyve had is no56, thats their greatest, but it aint great ;)

it doesnt take much to make a song now tho, Call on me for example, get some bikini clad women exercising, and a crap song with 3 words... and u got a no1  ... i could do that on Dance Ejay... what happened to epic 33 week no1s etc...

If you like gothic rock, I think you wouldn't like Mattafix, cause it's considered to be pop... I don't like pop anyway :D but I really like Mattafix :) :p

Who cares about what category a band falls into? Rasmus is just your average popcrap-wannabe-rock category though ;)

My favourite band is Alkaline Trio (if you can't guess by my sig). I guess they fall loosely into the punk category (anybody saying it's emo needs a slapping). They are lyrically amazing, I wish I could right a song half as good as Matt Skibas worst effort :). I'm just waiting for them to come back to the UK again, god knows when that will be; I seen them twice in their last tour (Newcastle and Liverpool).

I'm off to see the Foo Fighters in Manchester, should be great day with the Strokes playing too. That will keep me happy for a little while at least :)

I'm not really sure if I've got a favourite band to be honest! I like so much that its hard to pick one. I guess you could put the Offspring somewhere near the top of the list, as well as Breaking Benjamin, Authority Zero and Fall Out Boy...and Yellowcard...and Four Star Mary...the list goes on!

I'm generally a fan of Rock though, with the occasional venture into more chilled out acousticy stuff!

You see, I just don't like The Rasmus 'cause I hate foolish songs. I like that songs which have some sublime sense, like Mattafix!
