crappy battery in it...want to try underclocking it to see if i can get any extra out of me lappy without buying another battery
does anyone know any windows based tools for under/overclocking i know of clockgen but that wants to know the motherboard make and i dont have a clue
its a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo D
p4 3.06
512 pc2700
ati 9000
thats all you will need..but yeh like i said, i went on the specifiications for it and i cant find anywhere which motherboard it has, so i cant download the right clockgen
tried googling for others but none seem as good as clockgen
can anyone suggest another tool, or something?
(the reason i ask is because the bios is crap and has no mention of fsb or multipliers or voltage or nothing..i cant do anything :( )
im only getting like 90min out of it...

well... my FSB controllers ect for my lappy... are a series of switches hidden under the keyboard and another plate after that. but even then i think i get only change it in major gradients. not tried changing them as i still get around 2 1/2 hours from my 2.8ghz P4... with a 9000m! i did notice though if i removed one 256mb module my overall clock went down to 2.4ghz (i think somewhere around there) - six

SiSoftware Sandra is a great tool for finding out motherboard and stuff.

I'm pretty sure you'd need to lower voltages in order to actually save power. As even if it's going half the speed as stock, it's still going to consume roughly the same power unless you lower that. Just thought I'd mention that, since I didn't think that any windows based clocking utilities had proper voltage adjustment settings. I'm quite possibly mistaken though.
Alot of laptops have cpu-throttling in the bios for power saving... not sure if they phased it out or not though... or if it was any good.
My old P2 laptop did, and my PB does though...

You might find AIDA 32 (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download181.html) or Everest Home Edition (http://www.lavalys.com/index.php?page=product&view=1) better/easier than SiSoft Sandra for general system info purposes VV ;)

thx Fireblade ill give them a go
sisandra just said "uniwill" or something...never heard of it!
i know what your saying about lowing voltages...at 1 crazy point i considered ripping the cpu out and sticking a mobile chip in..but besides me not knowing if that will even work, it will void me warranty and everything :(
****ed me off today....65%.....58%.....4% ...erm
it dropped 40% in a flash..like 1 or 2 seconds....i seriously have my doubts about that battery at times...
i just dont see the point of running the cpu at 3.06ghz for word and some roms! and heaven forbid winamp!!!!
but i cant find anything in the bios or power management ...bah!
