hi guys and gals hope u can help when i connect with my modem instead of the aol browser ( i know i know aol sucks ) the download speed is cut by half :eek: does anyone know how to make download as fast as when im connected with the browser?

soz i meant when i enter my username and password using the modem not the browser

I think he means using his own DUN instead of the standard AOL dialer. Not totaly sure. I'm not sure why your download speed would be halved, although it's probably something put in place by AOL in order to make you use their own software.

I'm sure AOL use some really wierd ass compression for web pages. Just ditch AOL...go on feel the freedom.

Hate to say it, but AOL are actually providing a fairly decent service these days. Granted their browsers still utter bloat, but from what I know of it, the service is fairly reliable, and neither dial-up or DSL has any limits in any form.

AOL ADSL has caps.. in the UK anyway, quite low caps... like 2gig on one of there taffis i think, anyway.. its proberly due to not using the AOhell softwear to connect.. carnt give you any solution cept changing isp's beacuse i have never used AOL or there softwear.

2Gb download cap?

Always been unlimited as far as I know.

I've been using AOL for 5 years, and there are only 2 main problems i can find, no unix support which sux! And networking with AOL, you have to use the official AOL router. But otherwise i'm very happy with them. Im online with dial-up for weeks at a time! :)
AOL also connects to an ethernet on the AOL severs that might be somthing todo with your problem!
