I managed to recover my hard drive that became unreadable and formated it today, deleting everything on it (as formats do).

Call of Duty was installed on the hard drive but i didnt recover it thinking it wouldnt work anyway so i just let it get wiped, leaving the only trace (or what i thought to be) in the add/remove programs. In there it said the folder was gone yada yada yada , do u want to remove it from add/remove programs which i said yes.

Now I just went to install CoD there and when i load the disk it says its installed !!!

I cant uninstall, install, play multiplayer or play singleplayer at all it just exits the CD ???

Soooo does anyone know how to wipe the game completely from the system ?

Cheers

I'm confused.......am I missing something here?

If you had completely formatted your hard drive, then absolutely everything would be gone, and you would have had to reinstall windows and start all over again.

If you had done that, then there is no way you could still have traces of a game lurking about in your "Add or Remove Programmes".

Are you woking with more than one hard drive?

LoL yes, sorry i didnt mention that :)

It was installed on the slave drive (which got wiped) and the master is still saying it is installed

Then just remove all folders/files relating to COD from that drive

Being honest, if it were me, I'd probably just wipe the whole lot and start afresh.

You could spend a long time trying to fix this sort of thing and get nowhere. At a guess, there could be also be stuff lurking in the registry of your master hard drive causing issues as well.

The machine would probably run a whole lot sweeter too! :)

Considering i have sat all day scanning/retreving/copying/formating a hard drive i really cant be bothered formating another hard drive then reinstalling all my programs and drivers, which i know for a fact will go wrong somewhere (prob something like NTL refusing to install) :)

At least you know it would solve your problems though! :)

Sitting trawling through google trying to find the answer might well just waste even more time and leave you feeling more than a little hacked off!

Eventhough you wiped the HDD of all files, you still have settings for the game in your Windows registry file. You'll need to find and delete all the entries for CoD from within it.

I went through the registry file and deleted all the files that had Call of Duty in them, but its still not installing :(

Any other way to find registry files for something ??

As I had said previously, you could spend ages looking for the solution to this problem and get nowhere. :(

I honestly reckon your best way forward is to format and start again.

Ok, have you tried using a decent registry cleaning utility? A good reg cleaner should be able to figure out that the entries in the registry no longer have valid links to the files you have removed. I would head over to downloads.com (http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?qt=registry+cleaner&tg=dl-2001&search.x=0&search.y=0&search=+Go%21+) and pick up a few reg cleaners.

I was using regedit but i managed to solve the prob any way without deleting anything else :)

I simply explored the CD and chose to run the install instead of setup, missing out the setup screen and the part asking me what to do :D

So much for formating
