Before I start explaining the problem, here is my current PC spec:

Shuttle SB75G2
Intel Pentium 4 "Northwood" 3.0GHz (800FSB) with HT Technology
Corsair 1GB DDR Value Select PC3200 (2x512MB)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 160GB 6B160MO SATA 8MB Cache
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI
Sony DWU-22A 16x DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter
Windows XP Home

Just built the system a couple of weeks ago and have been having a few problems. Basically what happens is I switch on the machine, then it gets up to the point before it loads Windows and it just hangs. The screen is blank and the orange HD light stays on. If I turn it off and turn it back on again a couple of times, it eventually boots up and everything is okay (I'm typing this post on this machine just now). Its running fine and I'm having no problems.

So anyways, if anybody has an SB75G2, they'll know about Intel's blatent advertising first thing after you turn the machine on. I'm unsure if this is important, but when I see this logo:
http://www.intel.com/products/i/browse/p4pht.gif
The machine will boot up fine without having to turn it on and off a few times.
However, when I boot up and see this logo:
http://www.intel.com/products/i/browse/p4p_62w.gif
(Without the "HT" in the top right)
I get worried when I see the second logo cause thats usually when I have the boot problem. Although the machine has booted up fine sometimes after seeing the second logo.

Does anybody have any ideas?

You could try turning off HT in the BIOS or try another processor

What power supply are you using? Often people neglect to get a powerfull enough PSU when building a new machine, and just use an old weak one.

Also, have you tried(if possible) to run memtest? If you've not heard of it, the thing to do would be have a google for it, go to the homepage, and download the bootable ISO/floppy version depending on your preference. Make a boot disk/CD and set your boot order in BIOS so that the cd/floppy(whichever one you made) is first, then let it boot into memtest and run a full set of tests. It doesn't sound like it's the memory, but it's good to rule it out :)

It stopped doing it ages ago. I'm not sure why it was doing it in the first place though  Hasn't done it in about 4 weeks so its not a bother anymore.
