hmm this is a bit of an odd question as no one may not be able to help me unless they have a PSP i dont know..but what the hell ill try anyway

i also didnt know where this was best suited

but:

you know the PSP uses the sony duo stick ..im sure any one remotely tempted to buy 1 knows this....well i want to get a bigger stick for mp3s and stuff and was wonder if the psp ONLY accepts the duo sticks as at £75 for a 512mb stick surely theres cheaper alternatives

i dont know if any of you know if any the same size will work or if only this particular make is accepted...ive tried googling and im getting some info ..that it doesnt take "PRO" only DUO because they are different sizes..anyone some sort of mem stick buff can help me out

im sure ive seen another make "Sandisk" i think or someone who also do Duo sticks..but its hard to find out if they are compatible ..anyone can help me out?

no :(

like i said i dont know the ins and outs of mem stick makes but i believe "pro" are longer and dont fit

to my knowledge it HAS to be "DUO" which unless im blind aint there  ...i dont "think" anything else will work...do cameras or stuff take "duo" cards does anyone know..im sure they wasnt purely invented for the psp was they?

oo just noticed on that link:

http://www.digimem.biz/Results.cfm?secondary=27

there the right size and £45 for 512mb is MUCH more appealing than 75+..just gotta find out if sony aint picky and which actually accept other names now

the psp takes duo cards, not full size memory sticks like C14RKEY said

http://www.vidgame.net/SONY/Sony/psp/1.jpg

duo and duo pro are the same size so will fit no matter who makes them.

duo pro cards go up to 2gig where regular duo cards go to 128mb.

the device your plugging it into has to be able to address the extra capacity of the pro cards in order to work.
if the psp says it will work with duo pro cards then you can get whatever size you like. if it only says it works with duo cards then your limited to 128mb max.

hmm i havent looked around properly for what it actually takes but i know sony are bringing out a 1gb stick for it ...so i presume its duo pro

even though the stick itself is useless

"Sony PSP Memory Stick Duo 32mb" MagicGate.....which is mentioned on these sandisk ones...

why useless??

you can get adapters to make it compatible with full size memory sticks.

i wasnt saying that the psp uses memory sticks i was just saying that my sony cam can use any make of memory stick, so i couldnt see why the psp wouldnt be able to use any make of the duo stick

It doesn't matter what make it is as long as it fits the right specs. I think you can put any duo stick in it but it has to be duo pro in order to take advantage of certain features. Can't remember what features these were.. could of been mp3 or video playback or sumthing.

Let me know if you figure it out as I want one :)

Sony web browser and office tools? (http://www.gamingheadlines.co.uk/view.asp?id=779&p=psp&d=sony)

Looks like it might be more than just a gaming tool!!!

Awesome!

Scandisk pro duo info (http://www.gamingheadlines.co.uk/view.asp?id=760&p=psp&d=sony)

Looks like i was wrong about duo- think its only duo pro that will work - but any manufacturer should do.

As a Sony gadget man, only the Duo Pros will work. If you think about it, it's quite simple: in order to use a memory reader you need to insert the duo cards INTO an adapter or uniform width, so these adapters which mimic the exact size of a standard Sony Memory Stick are wider than that of a Duo.

Wow, if I get a PSP I can standardize the memory between it, my P900 and my Sony DSC-T1!!! Got 3 x 512Mb....

duo's and duo pro's are the same size..

..but there is a difference electronically between them as regular duo cards will work in my phone where duo pro cards will not.

my remark about it being useless came out wrong..i meant it said nothing on it to give me any useful info
:)

used it as an mp3 today at uni with a whole 6 songs on ...bloody good them 6 songs..but meh i need a 512...i emailed that site you linked me to C14RKEY the page i linked with the right ones on (think there the ones you meant to post) well i got a reply back today saying the Sandisk one works (the 512mb at the top of the page) ..as he's tried it on his own heh

so its all systems go for Sandisk..now to get hunting around if i can find it cheaper than £35 ..cheaper the better!..i dont want a 1gb..it would be nice but thanks to the large gap i have in my bank account from the psp i now dont have too much to go splashing out on extra accessories heh :o

Hi Just been looking at the retorts for the Memory stick pro duo, I have a problem. I bought a 2GB pro duo stick with the adapter, the stick works fine in the psp but when I insert the stick in the adapter in the memory stick slot on the pc, the pc does not recognise the pro duo card. its not the adapter becasue I have a 32mb card and it works fine with that, have you any ideas about this.

Cheers

Umm the Lexar 512mb Duo's are £25.01, even the Sony Duo Pro 512mb is only £29.99 where you get that price?

and the 2gb Pro duo is £65.

*EDIT* Ah just realised some bloke brought the thread back from over a year ago!

i think you tried to pm me but my box was full (...childish snigger).
if it was regarding this then i can only suggest that you format the card.
format it in the psp and try again. if you can not format it from your pc then try it in another.

You can buy any Memory Stick Pro Duo. I currently have a 1gig Sandisk and getting ready for a nice 4 gig one :)

Sony are stupidly expensive for their sticks, the Sandisk ones are substantially cheaper if you know where to look.

£40 will get you a Sandisk 1 Gig Pro Duo Card, but tbh save your cash and get the 2 Gig ;)

£84 will get you the 2 Gig card :)

Finally around about 130 quid will get the 4gig stick :D

... the Sandisk ones are substantially cheaper if you know where to look.

You obviously don't though :p

I can buy 2GB Sony Duo Pro's more than £20 cheaper than the price you've quoted for a SanDisk

£84 will get you the 2 Gig card :)

My 2GB Sony Pro Duo price = £50.13 / £58.90 :D

And that's not an auction site price! It's a genuine online store... one which specialises in digital camera-type memory/batteries/chargers etc.
It's also a store which I've used quite extensively myself in the past for such stuff, so I'd have no qualms recommending them to ya

PM me if you want to know more ;)

/me finds it wonderful to have a staff account @ Jessops :p

Sandisk ones definitely work out with less margin on them. AFAIK, Sandisk make the Sony-branded cards anyway

Apparently, you can get a bigger battery pack now for the sony psp which has memory built in some how. The memory is of high capacity, i think somebody was saying 4 to 8 gb.
