Always try your LBS, if you go in there enough that they know you?

Whats an LBS...
How about Tesco/Sainsbury/Asda/etc?
My first job was with Tesco and the money wasn't bad either.

i guess i'll hand an application in, ive heard asda do a night**** and the pay is good i'll ask about that one could be some good money working nights just means id have to sleep in the afternoons lol
You used to need to be over 18 to work nightshift (at least you did when I was doing it, 6 years ago). And it is hard work, since you have to have the whole store stocked and faced before the cleaners come in.

Stephen

Walk into all the supermarkets that you could get transport too , approach the information desk and say "Could i have an application form please?"
Do this to 5 / 6 supermarkets , fill them all out at once and return them all - It should only take you an afternoon and will give you a really good chance of getting a well paid part time job :)

I Went to the bike shop they said it is pretty dead there at this time of year and he can only offer me work in the spring / summer. I also went into the bar i play pool at dinner times which is like a niteclub at night and asked if they needed glasscollectors, which he said maybe to, took my number etc.
Anywhere else i should try ? i think i'm going to apply for currys, kwik save, morrisons and tesco aswell..
do you need any 'qualifications' to work at currys, dixons, pc world etc?
(one of the people who work 'on the floor' and try to assit you in choosing your computer, and giving information on cameras, tvs, what ever it might be...)
not one of ones who work on the checkout

no but you will need to be a good salesman as most of your money will come from commision of sales, you will be expected to have average qualifications and you will be trained anyway so probably quite easy..

people at pc world have qualifications?!
get yourself a job at a supermarket! Its very easy to get in and the work is relatively easy. Undo box, put out stuff, fold box down, start again :p Regarding nightwork i was offered to do that and i'm only 17. I've broken loads of rules regarding working and my age anyway. I don't care though nor do where i work it would seem ;)
evidently i'm completely out of touch, but what the hell is a "BB" or "CC" in terms of grades?
back when i did my exams it was just A*, A, B, C etc etc
an interesting job could be lifeguarding by the way - i did that when i was 17... try and find a company which will pay for you to do your NPLQ qualification (in return you have to work a certain amount of hours for said company) and you're set.
and if you're lucky like i was you can land a job where in the summer you work outside all day and pretty much just sunbathe whilst getting chatted up and occasionally picking people out of the pool/throwing them out for being idiots.
that was an easy job - pretty dull in general though, and pay was average. Then during my gap year i worked at BMW cowley building the mini... great money but don't think they did part time, and was the hardest job i've ever done!
lately i work in an asda warehouse driving trucks around as a holiday job in between University term times to help me pay for my costs. the pay for that is pretty good (not quite as good as bmw) but the work is easier, the managers are friendlier and they are more accomodating to part time work.
EDIT - oh, forgot i also did a British amateur weightlifting qualification (BAWLA) although i believe they have now dropped the "amateur" so you may want to look up BWLA instead. I then worked in a gym using that qualification... If you are physically oriented then it may be worth looking into whether any gyms would consider giving you a job given your age (i was 18/19 when i did it)
BB means a course which was worth 2 GCSE's grades. Most people say english BB or whatever which actually means B English Language and B English Literature
cheers... you learn something new everyday!

Digit is correct, IT and science are double awards, english is the litreature and language,. (not that i can spell it) and i'll have a look into the lifeguard thing but to be honest dont fancy being ****ed around by cheeky teenagers n stuff lol!

EDIT: i found college to be utteer sh*te, most probably coz there was more chavs than u could throw a stick at!
people at pc world have qualifications?!
NOOOO, that is NOT true, its impossible, is it not? Hah, i think any drop out from school could get a place in pc world, all you gotta be able to say is "this fast pc", "cheap price" and "guarenteed to beat others" and youve got the job!
Grrr pc world *curses*

nightshift pays nearly 10 quid at some supermarkets. not bad really. especially if you cant sleep at night like me.

I used to rake in around 350 quid a week doing night shifts at a supermarket, paid in cash too :)
but as has been said before, you need to be 18 to work nights so that is out for the OP..
As for working in places like pc world, dixons etc, you don't need any skill whatsoever. And you can tell it isn't commission based as the assistants put exactly zero effort into the job..

Tsk. I'm a lean, mean e-mailing machine.
You should see my inbox / outbox every day - more emails than most folk would write in a year :)
Seriously though, we don't have any positions at the moment. The whole thing is pretty well organised at the moment - we're all busy, but (just) able to cope and that's a fairly good level to be at. Sure, it would be lovely to have lots and lots of people to do all my jobs, but lots of people cost lots of money - you know how it goes !

I messed up the DNS for my email, and I went from between 80-120 a day down to 10ish (personal account)
I thought maybe every was just being slow in reply!
Oh well hopefully nothing important went in2 the void of DNS :P
mmmm, tablet... that should be a permanent thing...
can you make a special "add to cart" link for me, so i can pay a extra couple of quid for some tablet! go on , go on , go on , go on... ;)

nope, im better to be sat at home building comps i could do that i think ... you could also send me samples of new graphics cards and i could benchmark them then keep the card? got any XT800's u need done lool
That's doing better than me !
I'm off for a job at the supermarket ;)
and i dont doubt that for a minute when i started my business I was in the same boat check operators were paid more that I was
after five years im starting to earn a resaonable amount problem is you play catch up with the crap wages you paid yourself for the first five years :)
That's doing better than me !

The money was good but the job was hell. Started at 9 in the evening and went on till 8 in the morning. The work load was mental, you had to shift a serious amount of stock onto the shelves in that night. You also lost all your social life, and if you had trouble sleeping during the daytime, you were a zombie most of the time
The worst part though was the people you had to work with. Serious dregs of society, who'd all been doing it for 20 years or so. Their idea of fun was seeing the sun, and their idea of qualifications was the 100m swimming badge ;)
You could feel your intelligence just being sapped from you
I kept it up for 2 months before i could take no more. Had a big fat wadge of cash though:)

D00d, i dont mean to be harsh by all means, but i donnnttt think it would be possible to have that job. I mean man, if anyone dummy could build a pc, well i think everyone would do that job!
Unfortunatly in this working day and age, you have to work for your money. Who ever made money from sittin on their ar53 building comps? No one.. I think you should make a cv ( I can help you over msn if u wish, just PM me :) ) drop it to a few places, and this way, A. they know you have got off your a55 and made the effort to go to them, and B. You will have more of a chance of getting that job.
Dude, im in a similar situation now, family are mooving to spain, they want me to and im not sure what i want to do! I've met this gurl etc, and want to stay in england ideally! Just know the language and can communicate with people well! Now, i have a few job oppertunities open, Scaffolding, working with my uncle in london, or getting a part time job at Odean or Burtons.....
People are SCREAMING for trades people now, i mean look at plumbers, electricians, brikky's, scaffold erectors, and such alike..
Did you know if you are an experianced and GOOD carpenter / pluber / electrician you can earn over like £500 a week?
When i left school, i wanted to be an electrician, or a plumber, i can put my hands up, and say in all honesty, that i didnt write to many people, like 5 of each, thats crap.. Right? I didnt put the effort in! I left skool with C'd D's one E and FF ( wtf happened to teh double f i DONT know, i had like a damn cc!!) Oh well guess thats what happens if you dont revise that well!
You may think "W7f 15 th15 f&*£^"G Crazy B@57@d on about?!!?"
I'm trying to say, if you are in ANY skilled job, youre gonna be reeling in those notes, and forever! (Well at least in our lifetimes!) And your NEVER gonna be out of work... Thats fow shizzle.. Dizzle!
Get out there, make some cv up, as i said if you need ANY help AT ALL, im sure me, or any other foum members would be MORE than happy to help! ( were just all soft bears really!) Do a side job, you know part time while you think about youre future career, Get in a skilled trade i say.. And i rekon most other people would Agree!
Over 'n' out! And GOOD luck mate ;)
Did you know if you are an experianced and GOOD carpenter / pluber / electrician you can earn over like £500 a week?
im not sure how much that is a year, (cant be bothered to work it out)
but i remember reading in the newspaper that a brick layer can earn up to £70,000 a year!
manual labour jobs are in demand.

£500 x 50 (2 weeks hols) thats £25k
The most ANYONE woudl want to spend, is roughly 1k a month, 500 on a rented house, 200 on food, 200 on insurance for my 205 1.9 gti :D and spending money! Man, even if you spent £1200 a month, at the age of 20 damn man, your gonna live a life allright!
Hmm im considering going into a trade again! I was a decorator, and man, that was a good payed job too ;)
