Happy New Year All!

My pc is from Mesh and cost me 1400 quid and its under 2 yrs old and i thought that it needed a clean out so i reformatted my 120gb HD and done a clean installment of XP as i want to put 3 partitions on it, i use my system for Gameing,Downloading and Editing Digital Video. Now i am not that experienced with PC's so did some reading online and thought i could do it myself,so while i was doing it i wanted some info so i rang mesh and this is what i was told..."The C drive should not have been reformatted as there was infomation on there which was important for the pc"! But have tried to get them to explain more but they want to charge me a pound a minute as its not a hardware fault and my warranty does not cover this! As the system come with a the wrong Mobo's CD i have No drivers to put in so what i did was let windows put there own in and thought i would update after if needed! Now theres no yellow exclaimation marks in Sys Inf and everything seems fine apart from when i boot the screen goes black for a few seconds and then monitor goes into power save, then XP splash screen starts dim and then its ok after that, can anybody tell me what i am doing wrong?

MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

well... if I can decode the single setence....

Right, it sounds fine what you have done. the only other thing I personally would do is lift the cover to find out exactly what motherboard you had in there. Then I would trot off to the manufacturers website, get any chipset driver i needed and install them.

In fact, i've just been to the mesh website and they offer a download by system, so once you log in you put in your model number and it will give you all you need.

....and the only thing I would add to slam's comment is that the Mesh site may not contain the latest catalyst drivers for your 9800se so you may want to consider downloading these from ATI's website.

Oh, and I deleted your other thread as it was similar to this one.

Thanks for a quick reply!

Ok i have up dated the drivers for the Ide controller and for the AGP there was a exc driver thats installed a prog called IDEUTIL but the problem still is there,i have also noticed this in 'system info' if its any help! And is there any truth in Mesh's comments about reformmating my HD?

PS sorry for simular thread!

well, you haven't actually got a problem really.

the wait on boot for the splash screen is normal. some machines fly along, some don't. some of mine wait a few seconds. as long as the machine runs fine once you log in then leave it alone!

Could it be that "SiS Accelerated Graphics Port" is an "on-board" motherboard graphics chipset?

If so then the flickering of the monitor to powersave and then back on may be due to the onbaord graphics card being used until windows switches to your 9800?

If this is the case then you should be able to disable to onboard graphics in BIOS.

The truth of mesh's comments was they probably had a folder with drivers and system updates, or maybe a restore disk creator. If windows is up and running, your system is fine. That's all. The blank screen before the splash screen is normal as was said before.
