I am trying to install WinXP to my Western Digital 200GB SATA drive.

I select a new install and then when it comes to select my SATA drive it has my media hard drive as an option and then:

Unknown disk in drive
Disk 0 at ID1 on bus 0 on ATAPI [MBR]

This machine was set up for me by the guys at Kustom so would one of them or any body really have an answer for me?

I have tried to load SATA drivers from a floppy but this hasn't worked either.

Cheers

Ah Ha! ! !
Solved it, for any one else that has this problem you need to use the drivers for your motherboard and not your hard drive.

For instance I have a Western Digital Hard Drive and an ASUS motherboard which uses VIA for its hard disk controller. Therefore you need to use the VIA driver not the Western digital.

It seems obvious now but If like me anyone has spent four bloody days over xmas trying to get this work you'll know how easy it is not to see the wood for the trees! ! ! !

It'll bet you breathed a hoooge sigh of relief when it eventually worked, eh :D There's nothing much more satisfying than working out the answer for yerself :)

And thanks for posting how you solved the problem. It might prove useful t' others later ;)

Unfortunately I wish I had worked it out a few days earlier cos I have pulled out all of my hair and have a rug worse than Russ Abott on my noggin' ! ! ! !
At least I can get on playing with Half Life on my new 19" ViewSonic beauty! ! ! !
