View Full Version : could i clone a 120g ide to a 300g sata
hi, i have a thermaltake tsunami case and i installed watercooling, but there is a removable hard drive caddy that i removed to install the radiator and fans, but i could mount one hard drive where the floppy goes so i mounted my 120 gb, but as i have nowhere to mount another hard drive im just wondering if i could clone the 120g ATA to a bigger SATA so i wouldnt have to reinstall windows and just use the 300gb,
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_3827.html
the 5"1/4 drives, slide in from the front, u put some little things on the side and then just push them in, would it still work ?
heres the tech info on the case
u can see where it says
" 5 * 3.5’’ slide-in cage with disk shockproof pads and thumb-screws "
i removed this so i could install my radiator and fans there, so i need to double check that those convertors from kustom would work with the screwless design on the bays
You screw the spacers to the drive, which makes it approx 5.25" wide (same as an optical drive) which you can then screw into the larger bays...
so in my case, just screw the hdd to the spacer, then mount the slide in clicky thingys which the case uses onto the spacer and slide in as if it was a dvd rom etc
this is wot it uses
this is what i removed to install the watercooling
so i discarded a 200gig hd and installed my 120 in here
as u can see on this picture there is blanking plates which u remove to install the optical drives
would i have to remove these to install the hdd, would the hdd not screw into the spacer then screw into my case instead of using the reccomended slide in mounts as i have already removed the clickin fan holders and going to remove the click in slots for pci and agp
