Ok, i have this problem with my monitor, Samgsung 957P 19" CRT, i have these two black-ish vertical lines at the sides of the display.

Im using a 9800Pro card, not OC'd, and have all the latest updates etc...

I have tried using the monitors on screen calibration to extend/stretch the picture horizontally,, but still nothing. Have also tried the settings option in windows and then in to monitor powered by my gfx card, but STILL nothing gets rid of them.

Im running the screen at 1280x1024, and at 85HRz.

NOW, heres the thing, if i drop my refresh rate to 70HRz then i can fill the screen?????? BUT 70hrz hurts my eyes. !!!!

Is my monitor going to the graveyard on me, or what??

Please help, its driving me crazy here as the bars are **** 2cm wide.

highest refreh rate is 85Hz, and im on that now. not tried it on another PC as i only have the one pc, and this thing is damn large.

Are there any other settings i can try? I cant think of any more.

So what about at 80Hz?

Or 75, maybe? :p

Is it possible to adjust the screen size on the monitor? Try making it bigger so that the display actually fills the monitor.

75hz is the next one down, and i still get the bars, and its 70hz after that and 70hz gets rid of the bars, but hurts my eyes.

Yeah, tried that, its at max horizontal width and there two bars are STILL there.

Has my monitor seen better days? Is it time to get a new one?

Could try a TFT, they don't use refresh rates and so don't have the problem.

So what the best gaming TFT then?

I would prefer a 19" TFT, but whats the best for games and Photoshop work?

http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_6019.html is an excellent screen (have one_, runs with max resolution of 1280x1024. http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_6003.html is it's 19" bigger brother, but also has 1280x1024 max resolution.

Remember that on a TFT screen, the display size is the size you can see - whereas on a CRT, you can see less than the stated size.

For alternatives and ideas... do a search of the forums.

There are numerous threads/posts about many different TFT's - in various sizes (17" - 23"+!). Choose one you like that's within your planned budget ;)

Have you always had this problem using your current monitor and video card?

Have you tried the monitor using an alternative video card or even on-board graphics?

You might want to try rolling back your video card drivers by one or two generations to see if it is simply a bug in your latest driver set.
