Hey peeps,
I am eager to buy a graphics card, and i would like some help,
WHAT SHOULD I BUY AND WHERE CAN I BUY IT CHEAPEST??? I have found kelkoo to be very unreliable in recent times!
Anyway,
I am looking at any of the NVidia 6 Series Card, the 6600GT upwards!
I can get a brand new Gainward 2100le for <£130, but is this a good buy and is it better than the 6600GT???
Or should i stick with a vanilla 6800 or should i go the whole hog and pay the extra for a 6800GT or Ultra, i game occasionally
But should i buy what over what? and why?
And regarding all this where should i buy from and where have you seen the cheapest prices? Please help me out!
Thank You Loads
Ian
EDIT : This was meant for AGP Gfx cards only, and i was wondering what were your manufacturer preferences? Cheers
If you only game occasionally, a 6600GT or X700 should be fine :) .
Cheapest 6 series is the 6200 ya know... :p
But anyway...the Gainward 2100le is a 6800LE. I'm not sure how those compare to a 6600...but it's a budget 6800, so probably not too well to be honest. The 6600GT certainly has better specs when it comes to core/memory speed...
Try http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5309.html (PCI-E, but then again so are most 6600s)
And regarding all this where should i buy from and where have you seen the cheapest prices?
These 2 tend to give you different answers ;)
Of course you should buy from Kustom - yes they may be slightly dearer than the cheapest possible but if you need any support you'll be glad that you paid it.

With your processor speed, a 6600 Gt should do nicely. Your processor would slow a 6800 Gt down and it would be waiting for instructions.
Anything higher than a 6800 would be overkill for your speed of processor. You could put a 6800 Ultra in there and you would still get the same framerate as the 6600 Gt, cos the CPU can' t keep up. You really need the fastest CPU you can get for those cards.
In some games, an A64 4000 is' nt even fast enough and the card still has more to give !

Just an update, i bought the Gainward 6800le and has softmodded successfully to 12x1 6vp, so in my opinion not a bad card for the price (£130).
Amazingly for eb*y*r(cough cough) it was new and sealed! But i have also bought a NVidia Arctic Cooler 5 for it so i can ramp up some of the parts (gpu and ram).
At stock speeds (300/700 8x1 4vp) it reached 6399 3DMarks03
however just softmodding via rivatuner gave the following
(300/700 12x1 6vp) 7943 3DMarks03, hopefully i should be able to get a few more when i put up the core speed! PC as Sig!!!
Anyway cheers for your advice, however in my opinion at those speed it kicks 6600gts ass, unless you can proove otherwise???
Thank You! (I was a bit stubborn i guess!)

whoa a 6800LE stock only gets 6400

it aint too bad i guess, shame its only 12x1, 6vp
its constantly at 375/750 and barely reaches 50 with the nv5
damn cool thing, i guess it could go higher but i cannot be asked! lmao
but its cool that i was able to get it to the gainward goldensample out of the box lol, so saved myself £100
so for £130 playing everything on full (1024*768) its more than i need!

just out of interest how easy was it to softmod the 6800le. is it just a case of installing a new bios. if it is how hard is it and is there any dangers to the card of going it
