OK,

I'm gonna be reformatting my pc in the next few days. Just looking for some advice about partitioning my drives.

Should I stick with basically a small partition for windows and programs, files in the rest?

Or one small for just windows, one a bit bigger for programs, and the rest for files?

I've got 12Gig for windows and programs now, and, lately, i keep getting close to the limit. Any suggestions on the amount of free space for the partitions too...

Cheers

Depends on the size of your drives, I'd go for around 20GB for Windows, depending on how much stuff you leave installed etc, and then the rest for data.

Depends.

If you install all your programs, games, etc; then make your Windows partition large and don't bother with a seperate programs partition.

If you install your programs/games in a seperate place, then your Windows partition does not need to be anywhere near as large, but you will need to make sure that your programs partition is plenty for all the things you are using and will use in the future.

I got 2x40G on raid 0
and 120G on IDE
I do Video editing, and a lot of CAD etc.
I want windows on raid, and I'm thinking putting the programs on the ide in another partition will give me more RAID to play with, DV video mainly.
Does that sound okay? or should windows and programs all be on one partition?

Cheers

I would not bother TBO. Just have windows+programs on the raid drive and data/backups on the IDE one.

Yeah I spose i'll probably do that, my IDE is fine for DV.
I'll probably go 15Gb on the raid for windows and software then, and just not install as many random bits of software that i dont use.
Cheers 4 the help!

are there any programs that allow you to resize a partition?

You mean windows based? Paragon partition manger and partition magic will do the job without lossing your data. But back up anything important as things can go wrong.
