View Full Version : Seemingly undeletable files....
Ok, i've got a file on my desktop that says that its in use when i try to delete it, when it most obviously isnt. i've tried re-starting it, but to no avail
I've also got 2 folders on my other computer, both have been created by windows, one by some update, and the other i can't access!? its a hidden file called '3', with a folder called 'update' in it, which it says i dont have the permission to access.
Any clues?

have you tried deleting the files in safe mode?
try and stop all the un-needed stuff in the Task manager then try and remove the folders...
yup, i've tried going into safe mode, and stopping all task manager stuff
still no luck

Hmm... What's the name of the file on your first desktop?
if your Disk is in FAT format just go in under DOS and delete the files.
if it's in NTFS then lookj out a good Linux Disro on CD, or a copy of the "Ultamate boot disk" then remove the files :)
did you download the file from a p2p network?
no, the file on my desktop was actually the new farcry engine demo from fileplanet, i downloaded about a meg, then stopped, and it stayed on my desktop
ok, nvm them its just i had a file that was downloaded from kazaa, and i couldnt delete it. i had to go into kazaa, trace the location of where kazaa saves the files, then delete it from there..
er, so you didnt install the whole demo then, cos you could try uninstalling the demo if you did

i've seen this before!!
The Comp still think's that the file is being downloaded so it's locked it!
Try running scandisk. or another file checker software!
but you might have to resort to a boot disk to get rid of the file.
try move on boot (http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html)
Or you could try downloading the file again in the same location, with the same name, windows might overwrite it and when its finished, you may be able to delete it.

Oh i had the same problem, these files become stacked and are due to long paths, use the tool available at <<no such spam url :) >> it is a free tool which deletes and also searches such undeleteable files and also assists in installation and sharing of long pathed files

It's spam, latency. Spammers generally don't worry about the last post date.
Oh... yea I didn't actually look at the link...
It was early, and I hadn't had my morning coffee yet and... and... SHUT UP!

10am is early? :p
Yes it is :D
I roll out of bed at about 9:30... have a bowl of cereal... walk down the stairs from my flat, across the street, and open up my shop at 10am, and then put on the kettle ;)
Anytime with AM in front of it is to early on a weekend if you just woke up.

I was just gonna say - download and install the "take ownership" context to your right click menu, and use then - then delete... until I realised that XP SP2 was still the main Windows OS when this post was created.
Haha
