Hi All
Well i recently got a LG 42'' (about yesterday actually :p ) and for now its on the floor. But i must say im not impressed with the quality of the picture with the Telwest box :o
Yesterday i tried DVI with my computer on the screen and movies are Crystal clear, so is reading text... and games.. well butiful :D
Thing is is there any way how i could make the picture like display a image more clearer, or is it just the Telewest box displaying rubbish quality?
Let me know...

These days cable, and particularly Sky, are cramming so many signals down a wire or up to a satellite that there's very little room for *quality* pictures. It's an absolutely myth that satellite/cable is "high quality digital pictures". Potentially the box could be to blame, yes (quality is, after all, quite a subjective thing) but don't ever expect it to be to DVD levels of quality.
And it is an LG, after all ;)

You may ned to google for a bit of kit called sweetspot. Apparently if used to process video it improves quality.
OMG a kid with a 42" screen (that's 4 times his age)!

yeeees. you should find out the total amount of active members on the forum...
and then divide 42 by x and then cut it up into 42/x pieces and send it to us in the post, then we wont feel so poor and angry :(

Well, the picture quality isn't the *greatest* and they're notorious for sound sync problems, although depending on who you talk to this is sometimes blamed on weak signal (LG's version) or a poor built-in tuner/peculiarity with plasma TV's in general (independant specialist).
Still, if it works for you, it works for you ;) fret not and welcome to the big TV world :D

Set one of these up other day, was nice screen, picture quality wasn't great but its plasma so its not going to be that good.

Woops little bit of wrong wording there...
:D
Its not exactly ''mine'' its my dads.. but 4 sum reason i put mine :p
LOL we all do its like ma dads car is mine his money is mine etc we all do it. Any way wondering if you got any monster cables for your sky cuz that made a hell of a difference on our tv
Frankly, the quality of the picture you get from Telewest is poor. Very blocky whenever there is the remotest hint of fast moving motion on screen. Stick a DVD through it, if it looks ok, then you know what to blame.
Brumster is right, they are trying to cram so much down a limited bandwidth that something has to give - Freeview is exactly the same. In the case of cable TV, there really is no excuse, since cable offers theoretically infinite bandwidth, assuming you get the multiplexing and demultiplexing sorted. Satellite is down to the capacity you have paid for. Bugs me though that there is junk like some of the shopping channels when we could have better quality pictures on the stuff we watch - digital radio is no different really.
Cheers.

dvd quality is fine, dvi on computer is perfect so is VGA.
So i think Telewest is to blame, shame really :o My dads going to be purchasing a dvd player where they have DVI to DVI hopefully rahter than scart lead (if they exist) also am browsing for a box that can do Optical and DVI.
(I know Sky Plus has Optical, but my dad wants DVI output aswell.)
If anyone knows about stuff like that, please tell me!! ;) :D
be careful running a computer through a plasma screen.... plasmas are very susceptible to burn in...

You can say that again. You should see the state of the ones we have at work that we use for network monitoring. Even though we cycle through several different views, the screen burn is terrible.

what is '' screen burn ''
what is '' screen burn ''
Where you get permanent shadows on then picture from previous diplays. Commonly seen on ATM machines or public information boards at train stations, airports, etc. i.e. in the previous examples, you can still see images of text that has previously been shown. Caused when the same static images are show for too long.
Cheers,
Stephen

Older plasma is susceptable to screen burn, the newer ones afaik are not as bad.

What is '' screen burn '' It's been described properly already, but (apart from them lookin' funky :D) it was the very problem screensavers were developed to help prevent ;)
Many people never learned that unfortunately, resulting in 10's 1,000's of next-to-useless mobitors
Yep, all the server monitors in work have the workstation locked screen burnt in!

Hmmm...I'm not sure that newer ones are less susceptible. We recently got one in the office for presentations (brand new - can't remeber the brand) etc, and that states that burn in is likely after 2 hours if the same image is displayed. My immediate thought is 'what about DOGs?' on channels these days. If you watched say The Hits for 3 hours, would ya have 'The Hits' graphic burned in?
Given the two hours part, and the fact ours is for presentations (typically a standard screen layout etc), I wonder about the burn in as well!
That's a point - what about the 'start button' in windows. I am assuming that 2 hours would be for pure white to burn in, while as the colour gets darker, the time increases.
if you are worried about the start button burning in, just right click the taskbar,
got properties and tick auto hide taskbar.
