I am currently running 1 GB of Corsair XMS ddr 400 RAM, and I am planning on upgraded my RAM to 2 GB. Now, do I have to use the same type of RAM or can I upgrade with a totally seperate RAM type?

You can use different RAM, but it'll work better if you keep it the same.

Why do you need 2gb though? What you up to? O.o

Well, watching 4Gb Pron movie files on mulitple TFT's does take it's strain on a system, I've heard. ;)

The same make is better (Read - 1-3% better), but as long as you get identical (or at least nearly identical) timings you should get the same effect.

2gb ! Thats a lot of RAM ! Unless your doing heavy editing or using 20 apps at a time, its un-necessary really.

Same brand if possible, but not essential. The performance wont be noticable. Its more important that the timings match. Unless timings are important to you (gaming, editing), then sell what you have and buy some branded RAM with 3.4.4.8 timings. You can pick 2gb up for just over 200 now.
