Sony Digital Receiver to PC

I have a sony surround sound receiver and I would like to hook up my pc's sound through it. The receiver has a multitude of connections I could use : optical, spdif, phono etc. what would give me the best quality ?

Optical SPDIF is usually the best bet.

You'll need a sound card (either seperate or onboard) with optical SPDIF-out (also called TOSlink).
