graphics card installation problem!

in the mmiddle of installing my radeon 9800 pro this message came up-

setup was unable to complete installation.
try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup.

does anyone now how i could fix this?

Is this a new card? If so I guess you did not uninstall the old drivers before sawpping cards. I would suggest going into Device manager and 'uninstalling' all graphics drivers. Then use Driver Cleaner to removing all graphics drivers from your PC (do this in safe mode). Reboot, ignore the 'new hardware found' messages and install the latest ATI drivers.

ok i downloaded driver cleaner and there is a list graphics card ATI, 3Dfx, NVidia etc and my old graphics card that was installed was a hercules. what shall i put in the list?

i rebooted my computer in safe mode then i started driver cleaner then again rebooted but i tried 2 install my g card again but the same message came up again. i am in Device Manager now so were do i uninstall my graphics drivers from(agp)?

Let windows install its own driver when it asks. Then install the catalyst driver.

This is now the third time I've told you how to fix this problem.

dont u think when i ask the first time that i would of done it and not be asking the 3 third time. anyway it just splitted in2 my mind so id thought new ppl could of helped except U!

um, I'm afraid I don't have any idea what on earth you just said

Let me put this is real simple terms for you.

The standard VGA adapter it is asking for is the basic windows one. Let windows install it for you automatically when you install the card.

Then install the catalyst driver.

Surely i'm not alone in realising this is all real basic stuff here?
