the dock connects to either a usb or firewire lead as they will both have the dock connector on the other ends.

p.s. the dock only really makes a difference if you plan on using the line out socket on the back otherwise you might as well just plug the firewire/usb lead straight into the ipod

Apple store imo is the best place to get a pod, tis where I got mine. If you're a student check out the educational section for discounts on things, it's about 10% on an iPod.

iirc the usb cable doesn't come with the ipod/dock, you will need to buy it seperately,

The new 4G 20GB iPod DOES come with a USB and firewire cable. My brother picked one up from the Apple Store last week along with a case and headphones. No problems yet, apart from the annoying habit of having to format the ipod if you want to link it to another profile/itunes w/o profile.

i was gonna say that it would be a b**ch if i bought a dock w/o a cable lol thnx for that :D

Sorry to hijack this thread, but how do you get the iPod to connect to a iTunes on a different account/PC without having to reformat it? My brother's iPod was set up in my iTunes(because of XP permissions) and to get it to work with his account he has to reformat it. The same goes with the iMacs they have at his school (running OS 9 if I remember correctly) so he can't copy his music of there without having to reformat.

when it says that the order is "shipped" on the apple site for your order status doesnt that mean that it is on its way? they gave this tracking number to the tnt thing but when i put it in the tracking says not found what the heck? anyone bought from apple? who can clarify this for me ?

I havent bought anything from the apple store but i can tell you that it usually takes a while for you to be able to track your parcel (usually a few days). Hope this helps.

You can also get great prices at the refurb section of the Apple store (promo.euro.apple.com/promo.refurb/uk). The refurbs come with the same 1 year Apple warranty and the ones I've bought look just like new (product and packaging). The 15GB 3G is £149.xx right now.

I've noticed this when ordering from Apple before. It can take a few hours for the order to show up on TNT's tracking system. If it doesn't show up after 24 hours I'd get a bit worried - not that I've had any problems with ordering stuff directly from Apple before.

Delivery is a little slow at times but the whole warranty thing makes up for that.

thing is for international orders they dont use TNT all the way, hence it wont show on there tracker straight away. Use the link i posted earlier.

I just rec'd a nice new 4G 20GB ipod :) only took 6 days to get delivered, considering its come from the other side of the world thats decent :)

from what i've seen so far apple is the worst online retailer for delivery, it's been 2 weeks and i still haven't received my ibook, the apple tracking link found nothing saying the number was unknown and when i rang up they said my order was with flextronic logistics somewhere and hadn't been dispatched yet, that was yesterday.

My delivery took a couple of weeks, which confused me, but I looked at some of the more obscure tracking features and found it was coming from Taipei (so possibly kinda understandable). If they don't have what you order in stock in this country it's probably coming from SE Asia.

If you heavily customize an apple product, they have to get it in from taiwan.

My powerbook took about a month aswell- as much as I love apple, they do need to do something about their shop's delivery time.

Use firewire with your iPod it's miles faster than USB2.

I didn't know iPods worked at all with OS 9? iTunes is OS X only isn't it?

An iPod will only work with one computer, officially, but IIRC if you enable disk use there are a few third party apps around that can copy music off an iPod, regardless of what computer it's on.
You could put one of these apps on the iPod, then plug it into any computer, copy the app to the computer and there you have it.

If you're fiddling on a 'foreign' computer, make sure iTunes, and the iPod service (PC only) isn't running, then it won't try to format it.
