View Full Version : thunderbird 1000 in msi k7t pro board - high temp
its running at 67 degrees centigrade
and every time I try to load up a game it totaly shute down. Is the above temp to high
or could it be my bios or graphics card which is a msi ms 8808 nvidea tnt 32 agp
help ?
That temp is way to high, mine is bout 40*C which is still hot
Thats way too hot IMO. My rule is don't go above 50. This pc now runs at 42 on full load and about 37 idle thanks to a better cpu cooler and some case fans :).

Hi,
I agree I've never normally had my Duron above 42 -> 43 C normally it idles a couple of degrees above room temp. And I overclock it from 800 to 1GHz.
So if room temp is 22C in Win98 doing nothing CPU is 24C. Normal Win98 stuff browsing, word proc etc CPU 28 to 30C. Games usually between 35 and 40C, and once room gets hot from all my swearing 42 or 43C!!!!! and 46 C trying to make it go flat out with some kind of testing program.
I also suggest you get some case fans, or failing this try running system with the top/side/cover off.
Then check you heatsink/fan combination is seated properly (they can be very difficult/awkward to fit. If loose or not level try removing motherboard and doing it on a worktop.
Make sure hot air is able to leave the case from around the cpu/heatsink area (not just the usual power supply fan). There maybe an area alongside the connectors where you can fit an 80mm fan on the back of the case, these are only £3 to £8 depending on what you buy and are well worth it.
Use silicon paste, if you don't know what this is --> FIND OUT !!! It helps transfer heat from CPU core to heatsink.
Have you been playing with the core voltage at all??? Try reducing this in BIOS.
Let us know

PS If your CPU is still running 69C or whatever GET it checked NOW, either follow my advice or others here or take it to Kustom/similar, don't keep using it at those temps for long, you'll fry it.
