It has adjustable fan speed so you can reduce the RPM and therefore reduce the noise :)

BTW, ALI4343 did you get my PM regarding where to get a Taisol?

The Taisol CGK760092 is perfectly adequate for an XP1800 - mine's at 43 degrees after being on all day, and it's been HOT today! Highest it got was 44 degrees. That's with the stock fan (which is nice and quiet, well, can't hear it above the case fans anyway!). Pretty cheap, can be had for less than £18.

But the Volcano 7+ is a perfectly good hsf too, and the manual fan control is a neat idea.

Yes mate just got your PM when you say its quiet what exactly is the noise level at??

Cos noise i hate its doing my head in with this cpu fan i cant watch tv whist having the COM switched on its that loud espeically at night you can hear it more.

I was also thinking about padding this lot plus new fan could cost me over £100 its alot of money to spend to get rid of the noise

Well, the Volcano 7+ has 3 settings, and the highest (i.e. best cooling) setting results in 47dB ..that's LOUD! The other 2 settings have noise level of 35dB and 24dB respectively. 35dB is borderline noticeable, 24dB is pretty quiet.

The Taisol has no form of fan speed adjustment (but could be modded ;)) and runs at a constant speed with a noise level of.. 36.5dB officially - I can't hear mine, so I guess the Volcano is just as quiet on its 2 lower settings.

Ok, tried putting my head closer to the case haha I think I can pick up the noise of the Taisol like that, like a high pitched whine, but sitting next to it it's not noticeable as it blends in with the gentle woosh of air running thru my case.

If you get some akasa case cladding then you should be able to cut noise down considerably, and I imagine the Taisol will be a definite improvement over your Coolermaster both in terms of noise and performance. The Volcano is also a good choice, and although it's more expensive you can cut the noise down to Taisol levels, or LOWER, tho cooling won't be as good at the lower levels. I don't think you need to spend £100 :)

Here's a review of the Taisol (http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1017) with an audio sample. :D

Here's a roundup of reviews, including both the Taisol (http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp_p3.htm#cgk760) and Volcano 7+ (http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp_p3.htm#v7p).

Ali

Sorry for not replying earlier, not been around for a while.

Well, as grrrpoop says, the Volcane 7+ has 3 speeds and I have it on the lowest. Keeps my XP1800 @ max 45deg (and even that is hotter than it should be 'cause the rubber feet on my XP are too fat at one side and you can see daylight between one side of the hsf and the core). Really must shve those feet down a bit!

Noise wise it is pretty good at lowest setting but middle and high will blow your head off if you kept it on for more that 5 mins or so. :D

Cheers

Mark
