Hey iv had NTL 750K broadband for about a week and all of a sudden its going really slow.

I used to download off sites around the 80s now its in the 40s and p2p wont go over 15k either

Iv ran adaware (all i had were trakers , and there gone now) and AVG which showed up nothing either.

Does anyone have any idea whats up ???

Cheers

NTL is well knowen to be slow, there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Not that slow !

I USED to download at 80k from sites (so does my mate with same connection) but for the last 2 days its not going over 50k.

You trying to say its normal for there to be a 30k dip in the space of 2 days ?

I never have any speed problems with NTL...only problems I've had was it disconnecting. And to be fair, it was during a storm when that happened. :D

Not related to your problem directly, but worth adding here for anyone searching in the future... if you get this after a fresh install of cable, don't assume for one minute that the wiring job to your house is up to standard just because it was done by a cable engineer...

A friend of mine had to call them back in and eventually they tracked it to a sub-standard cable/duff installation.

Likewise I've heard of similar problems (speed-related) when people run iffy network cards in their PCs that default to half-duplex mode. Very uncommon these days but still worth noting - get your NIC in full duplex mode if it's configurable....

Cheers,
Dan
