Although there are other programs available which do a similar job... Norton Ghost (http://www.symantec.com/sabu/ghost/ghost_personal/) is the undisputed king.

You'll find an excellent guide t' using it here (http://ghost.radified.com/ghost_1.htm) ;)

As for cleaning unused/old files: Again... there are dozens of programs available which were designed specifically for this job!

Two which you'll pro'ly find useful are HD Cleaner (http://home.tiscali.de/zdata/hdcleaner_e.htm) (FREEware! Reviewed by Major Geeks (http://www.majorgeeks.com/review.php?id=13)) and WINner Tweak SE (http://www.winnertweak.com/) - which performs loadsa functions, including just waht you're looking for... namely a 'Disc Cleaner', a 'Registry Cleaner' + a 'Shortcut Cleaner' ;)
