What kind of file are you trying to install - i.e... is it a[n] .exe file?

I take it this is another of your dodgy P2P downloads is it - coz the file might be incomplete, corrupt, or simply have an incorrectly named file extension which windows doesn't recognise?

Then I'm at a loss?

It sounds t' me like the CD is not being read properly. Maybe cleaning the CD will help?

Failing that... unless somebody else has some other suggestions... you may need t' buy a new copy of 'The Sims' :(

have u tried formatting your computer ? re-installing the operating could fix it, and if nothing else limit down the number of possible problems.

try installing some more legal and original disc's and report back :)

Edit : actually, this may well be down to your CD-ROM drive, also try installing a spare one (if you can) and see if the problem still occur's , if you have more than one CD drive in your computer try installing The Sims from both of them.

your pc is probably riddled in those things and are probably disabling virus scanners. Do a format then install a firewall like Zone alarm before you connect to the internet, then install an antivirus that’s upto date

CMH, your computer is almost certainly infected by a virus, if you cannot do a format, Contact your PC supplier or where ever you bought it from. Or take it to a PC repair shop. as your PC knowledge is limited thats what i would recommend. Good luck mate.

You'll be offered different options when you boot from the WIndows XP CD - including the option to format ;)

Hi MrCMH

Do you also get this sentence in the error box :

16-bit MS-DOS Subsystem

If so and you are using Xp Home or Pro I have a fix, just e-mail and I will send it via e-mail.

can i just state for the record IGNORE this guy...do not buy 2 cdroms just for the hell of it and keep them if they work!

test all avenues before considering buying one drive.

sounds like a *.nt file problem (i.e. lack of) :) if you check the MS site support.microsoft.com and do a search "autoexec.nt" AND "WinXP" it tells you that it's a known problem with some MS Updates! it's basically the old "autoexec.bat" and "config.sys" files that for some reason Windows2k and WinXP still needs to get some older install programs to work. the text files are only 3 lines or so big! once you type them in the install should work!
