I think you'd be better off reducing the screen res and the display detail down to medium, since your spec probably won't handle the latter sections of the game or any parts with a lot of action.

have you thought about uninstalling it then install it again. you may lose your progress in the game!

google for "doom 3 cache" my mate was telling me about it but i didnt listen that much....apparently makes it run smoother.

1. With your specs, you need to play it at a lower res and detail level.

2. Preferably you need more ram than 512Mb for Doom3, 1Gb being a bare minimum for this game to run properly.

Peter ive got a 2600XP, 512ddr 400, 9800XT and to get doom3 working well i run it at 800*600 medium textures

to get doom3 running full tilt on the highest settings you need (wait for the laughs) a 512mb gfx card on PCIe port with 64bit cpu and over a gig of ram LMFAO

as a matter of interest.... I've just built a system with AMD 64 3000, 1gig ram and a Radeon 9800 PRO graphics board (all other gear up to standard).

I loaded doom 3 which ran like a dream on high spec for about 5 minutes.. and would then chuck me out of the game.. every single time. Lower spec would just let it run a little longer before the same happened.

After much searching on various forums... they all stated it was probably an overheating issue.. (I have nothing clocked at all).. it wasnt heat...

The answer is to downloan the new (beta) driver from www.ati.com its a 4.9 version and you can find it only if you use their search facility for doom 3.

Problem solved.... so far.... so far.

Just because your system is not overclocked, it does not mean that you will not experience overheating issues......

Yeah, i had similar probs with my 9600Pro, game was crashing after a while using the 4.3 catalyst drivers. Since i installed the 4.8 it runs superb.

Agreed that some setups may overheat... but few of the forums pointed to the beta driver downoad which cured my problem. Sometimes its not just overheating.

hmm , just bought Doom 3 and having the same sort of problems, play the game for about 20 min's , and when i enter the 'maintance elevator' it exits the game back to the desktop :( , i managed to get passed it eventually but when playing it afterwards it did the same thing

my spec's are as follows:

ATI Sapphire 9800pro , AMD Athlon XP 2800 , Crucial 512MB , Shuttle SN41G2

i thought it might be overheating but after reading this thread i'll download the 4.9 beta driver and see how things go :)
