Hiya, got myself a Griffin Powermate (http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_5445.html). Have set it up, and i just cant get it to work. The blue light is working, and it is throbbing away, however i just dont understand why its not working. I installed the software on winxp pro, and then plugged it in, (as i do with all USB devices) and windows recognises the new hardware. But for some wierd reason i cant do diddly squat with it.
As it is also Apple compatible, i thought i would try it on my powerbook. Installed the software, then plugged it in. Still no response.

Is there anyone who also has this product who could give me some advise on how to get it to... simply work.

Thanks in advance

they are great once working but the pc drivers are very badly made. there are basically 2 parts to the install process.

1. (i suspect you have done this bit already)
run the installer off the cd which installs the software to c:\program files\griffin technology\powermate

2. in device manager, expand the usb devices section (might also come under human interface devices). now unplug the powermate and you will notice one of the items disappears from the list. plug the powermate back in and select the device that appears. now right click it, properties, update driver and navigate to the c:\program files\griffin technology\powermate\driver\powrmate.inf.

should be working now.

Thanks slarti, got the powermate to work, well just about. Next problem i'm having is that whenever i change an option on the program, it doesnt save. So for example if i add settings for firefox or another program, i go to apply now, then click ok. Then if i open up firefox nothing works. So then when i go back to the powermate program, none of the settings i added before exist or are even saved! Its really getting on my nerves, so at the moment all i can use the powermate for is just turning the volume up and down, and muting, oh and scrolling pages in internet explorer, (but who uses internet explorer anyway?)

Would appreciate if anyone could give me some helpful tips in getting this thing to work with other programs.

Hi,
Ive had my griffin powermate for about 6months or so now, have only just plugged it back in tonight after a month or two. I only used to use it as a volume control. But when i got my new speakers i had no need.

I think im having the same problem as you, although i havent noticed that my settings havent been saved they just dont work

At the moment it would be nice too use in firefox and winamp to scroll etc but the only programs i can find it working in are word an ie.

I also read on the net, an example being that you can save a word document by the click of it....but how dya set this up

..........the software you get only lists simple tasks such as scroll up/down.

HELP PLEASE!

Have ye tried any of the 'Tips 'n' Tricks' (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/tips.php) suggested on the PowerMate website (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/powermate/)?

If you still can't get it working properly... try their Support for PC's (http://www.griffintechnology.com/support/powermate/PM-PC-005.html) section ;)
