Hi there,

I bought a Zalman ZM400A-APF quiet PSU from Kustom about a year ago and just this last month it's been making a strange intermittent clicking like a static electricity click about once or twice every minute.

If I leave off the side door off the computer case, then no clicking. Put the side case door back on and the clicking returns after half an hour or so. It's as if the heat is causing it.

Anyone have any idea what it could be? It's definitely coming from the PSU, and I've checked for loose fittings. Only happens when the side case door is on!

If its electrical i'd make sure it gets fixed pretty quick, psu failures have a nasty habit of taking expensive components out with them. As much as it sounds un-fan related I presume you've checked that the fan is turning ok. Otherwise get the psu looked at, looking at it yourself is quite dangerous unless the correct precautions are taken. If its still covered by a warranty persue that avenue first.

Yes, the fan is turning. Bought the fan in May 2003 from Kustom so I guess no warranty left?

It sounds more like a small spark.

As i said before that PSU needs checking for a fault. If you do it yourself seek advice before taking the thing apart (can be v. dangerous), alternatively speak to kustom about whether or not they can undertake/organise a repair.

I think it may be a red herring. I increased the speed on my CPU fan to keep it cooler in this hot weather, and the ticking noise has stopped. So, somehow a hotter CPU (> 50 degrees C) is causing it...

Mmmmm, my intel stock heatsink fan clicks all the time; but that's only there because my decent one hasn't arrived yet.
