There's a laptop i've been asked to look at as it's keyboard wasn't working.... after spending ages trying to work out what was causing it to send random signals/keys I worked out that it did it whenever the back of the keyboard touched the metal bits of the laptop it caused the trouble.

Short of coat all the metal bits in something, put bits of paper between the keyboard and chassis and use paper washers and plastic screws or superglue to put the keyboard back on...... any suggestions?

All ideas appreciated!

Thanks!

Has this laptop been taken apart before or has it developed this problem without assistance?

Personally i'd be inclined to lay some plastic across the back to insulate but take into account conductivity, temperatures and airflow when choosing and fitting something. The trouble is with doing this with paper or thin plastic is that if a component fails or overheats you could have a nice little fire on your hands.

well if another ps/2 or USB laptop works fine. then i would guess someone has been messing around with it. If it has not been opened and is still under warranties then I would contact the people who supplied it. if not then i would find someone who knows a bit about laptops and there inside's

It hasn't been opened has has just developed the fault, I haven't bothered stripping it down entirely as it's very unlikely that the main board has a fault which would only affect the keyboard in that way.

I was thinking about insulating it but the amount of points is a nightmare, especially the points where the screws go in as they also need to be totally isolated.
