Just fired up my new pc and I have ran into a little trouble. I aint getting nothing. The motherboard has a little LED in ot to show I have power, this is on. Its just when I press the power up button nothing happens. The front panel connectors are connected properly, so I am at a bit of a loss

Make sure the ATX connector is properly seated on the board, happenned to me a couple of weeks back.

It is, otherwise my little green LED wouldn't light up, so theres definitely power there.

Yeah, but if it's not completely connected it won't work. I had it happen when I built my server, everything started but there wasn't enough power to boot.

Try turning the connectors around that fit on the mobo from the on switch etc.

Maybe ur psu is dud.

See the bit u plug into the mobo , u will see a green and black wire on the same row. Unplug everything , and put a wire connecting these two bits together.

Switch on the psu , if it dont go then it broke and ur only getting a couple of volts which is enough to power an led.

**This can be dangerous , dont do it if u dont feel safe doing so , i dont wanna be responible for u blowing up :D **

What alucarD said with the psu, if the fans start spinning (when you put a wire connecting pins 4 and 6) then its not the psu.

It could also be that the power on connectors aren't on the correct pins (thats the beauty of the lanparty boards - the ezon ezreset buttons

Other than that i can't be of any more help...sorry!

It's not beyond the realms of possibility that the actual power switch is dead, try shorting the 2 power pins with a screw driver or something.

I'm not sure if your board uses the extra 4 pin psu connector, if it does, make sure that's plugged in too.

Isnt that to power USB ? ?

No, I meant the extra power connector that often comes on P4 boards, though seems to be appearing more and more with other types of mobos.

BTW does anybody know the proper name for that (if indeed it has one?

Do you mean the thing in the pic ?? (bad pic i know , it was taken on my phone :) )

If its not the thing in the pic..........WTF is that cos i have never seen or heard of it being used !!

GeorDIE means this I think

http://www.moddin.net/reviews/cactushead/UV%20blue%20PSU%20connector%20kit/uv%20blue%20psu%20connector%20kit%20020_full.jpg

It's known as the P4 connector (to me anyway) but most boards use it now. Both the shuttle and fur fusion I have here (both AMD) require it.

he means the square 4 pin 12V connector.
The 1 in the attachment i can't remember what it's called either but its for old boards.

Yeah, that attached connect is/was used in server boards if I remember correctly?

Aye , i thought thats the one he ment at first . My uncle (who has a degree in computing and works for a computer shop) says thats to power your USB 2.0 ........ he may be talking poo but i just plugged it in ne way.

Had a look in mobo manual..."12V volt 4pin ATX power cord must be attached otherwise the system won't start up"

:o :o :o :o :o

Tried it with the 4 pin 12v ATX aswell, still nothing, I get the same. No fans, no nothing(except the little light).

Ok, turns out I had some molex wires the wrong way round going into the drives, like ground and 12v being the wrong way round. I fixed this problem and fans were spinning, cathodes shining and it made a little 'crack' noise, so I turned it off at the switch, it was the custom molex harness I made with 90 degree molex's, so I'm gonna use regualr y splitters. Could I have ruined 2 new hard drives and a dvdrw by having molex wires the wrong way round?

AlucarD

How did u put the moltexs in the wrong way round , they only fit in one way !!!!

saint
10-08-2004, 23:04
Cos I took them out the molex connectors to braid the wires

There is a very, very high chance that you have.

I was really hoping you wouldn't say that.

Yeah, that attached connect is/was used in server boards if I remember correctly?

I think it was to power AGP Pro slots. However never even seen a board with this on. Most server boards use 24-pin PSU's and I think the P4 (4pin 12v connector) was just an attempt to all more power to be drawn from the PSU without the need for everyone to go to 24pin PSU's. However as we are now getting to PCI Express all boards are adopting 24 pin PSU's as standard.

The new ASUS A8V(socket 939) has to have the 24 pin ATX and the 12V 4 pin ATX connected otherwise it wont boot.

My new pc isnt working now, when it gets to POST it isnt detecting the hard drives(new ones that is, old ones were fried). I'm starting to think that it is a hard drive problem?

My old pc doesn't work either, the cdrom and cdrw broke, so I got a new cdrw, it logs on but says i have to reactivate windows with microsoft, strange, but i click ok anyway, before I can do anything it goes to the blue screen of death.

Any ideas?
