yesterday i tried setting up a network between 2 computers i bought 1 network card because my other motherboard had a built etherent adapter and i bought 1 crossover cable

i installed everything fine and they were linked up but now my adsl doesn't work, i can connect and load webpages up and everything but my ethernet always disconnects me every 2 minutes,

im still in sync with the exchange but i have to keep pressing the "repair" icon to stay connected

i have now got rid of my network and i am trying to sort out my ADSL, i think the problem is due to using the same ethernet port that i used for my ADSL modem and i think i have screwed up the settings or somthing but i can't remember what the original settings were

sorry if this doesn't make much sense as it's hard to explain what is happening but any help would be great

FYI
im on nildram, with a dynamic IP and my OS is XP pro with an ethernet X-modem

Do you have to register a MAC address with the modem, if you are using a different network card than what was being used before this might be the problem.

I'm curious? If you were using an ethernet modem and bought an extra network card (giving you 2 total) and then used a crossover cable where does the modem plug in?

His other system has an onboard one so he bought an extra card for his system which had the modem connected to it, i think.

i was just using the ethernet port on the motherboard as a temporary network card because i was just transfering files between my m8's PC then when i was finished plug my my modem back in but now my modem doesn't work :(

thanks dylanmikagami but it didn't work, i no longer have the network running as it was just used for a day, and now its left my normal connection unusable

i've also tried re-installing my ethernet adapter twice and reinstalling my modem but still no luck
