98SE Internet Connection Troubles

I have win98se with all current updates on my computer. It was working perfectly until it was bombarded with spyware and somehow disabled my norton antivirus 03. I have run Spybot 1.3, Spysweeper and AdAware all newly downloaded and installed. I have been unable to reactivate or reinstall norton av or access the internet since this started. I can ping my router at 192.168.1.1 and can ping the internet at 4.2.2.2 but cannot ping any other addresses and cannot access the internet or ping my router through IE6 or Netscape7. Please help. have you set a proxy server in IE / Netscape. Do you have a firewall running?

Looks like a re-install could be the only dead cert way to clear a problem like this.

Thanks for the reply. How do you set a proxy server??? There was a McAfee Firewall I uninstalled it.
