Hi Guys,

I recently had to buy a new PSU for my brothers PC, trouble is, my old one had a DC socket for the speakers, this one doesn't! Damn!
Whats the best way to get power to my speakers now?
Should I just buy new speakers?
Your help is very much appreciated!

I'm assuming you mean a passthrough on the PSU?

Just use a wall socket?

Sorry if I'm been really thick! I can't just plug it into the wall. Coming from the speackers is a DC jack which used to plug into the socket on the back of the PSU, now there is no socket!!
Thanks...sorry for sounding dumb!

Are these dell speakers or other branded type speakers?

Also what does the plug look like. Is it a) kettle lead end (aka passthrough) or a round 12v type jack one

They are the speakers that came with the PC when i bought it. The lead is a 12v round jack type one.

Can't post a pic unfortunately, the pc is at my brothers house. (bugger)

That sounds very unusual, what brand of PC is it?

Can you not just get a mains adaptor of the correct voltage/amperage?

just buy a cheap multi voltage adaptor from tandy or maplins. less than a tenner for sure.

I'd like to do that, but the power cable doesn't "plug" into the speakers, it's sealed in with one of those rubber cases! Thanks for your help anyway! It is much appreiciated.

The answer is probably quite simple but you will need to do a little stetch of the old psu/speaker plug/socket arrangement and attach it to a post.

we'll have more of an idea then.

packard bell psu's have these, it's a small purply\pinky connector. it's just a standard power tip though.

go to maplins or equivalent and buy the accompanying male socket, it is a standard fitting so will be easy to find.

drill a hole in the back if your case and fit it in
wire it up to a spare molex line using the 12v wires
make sure you do it the right way around though

pliers + soldering iron + solder + flux + correct type of power adapter + speaker power cable + heatshrink tubing = fixed.

Thanks guys! I think that should be enough information. You've been great! :) :) :)
