Ok just in early stages of my build got to first boot and mooching round the bios.

On the boot screen the XP2500 is correctly identified when I go into the bios it says

CPU Name is AMD Athlon XP

CPU Internal frequency is 1100mhz (?????)

Speed is on auto detects
CPU operating speed 2500 (if I enter that menu get a choice of 2500 or 3200?)
FSB as 166

multiplier 11.0

THis is right for the 2500 chip at stock speeds isn't it?

So whats that CPU internal frequency at 1100mhz about? Is that right?

It is obviously reading the FSB and multiplier correctly.

Puzzled?

thanks for any help

John

BY the way it is an abit NF7-S board

Install a program like CPUID (http://www.cpuid.com/) and see what it says in there :) . It could be the BIOS just being stupid, so see what it's actually running at.

1st boot it will run safe default e.g. multiplierx100fsb.
Select load optimised defaults, save setting & exit - let it reboot (should boot twice whilst saving - don't interrupt it after the 1st).

All you want to know about getting an NF7-S running

Ah I see it all makes ense.

So on first boot it just runs at the safest settings it doesn't detect true speed etc just what is bound to work.

I'm up and running in WIndows and device manager is all clear, no yellow exclamation marks.

Have switched off now I'm knackered after that what a trip!!!

Anyway tomorrow when I boot up you suggest entering the bios and loading optimal settings?

I think there are 3 something like fail safe ,optimal and another one which I guess is for performance.

Once the optimal ones are loaded then I can go in and change what I like I guess.

I think I've seen on something like NF7 extreme they do a run down of the best bios settings so I'll do that when I get back from work.

Time for a stiff drink now I think

ok if its 11*166 its 1826mhz or 1.8ghz which sounds about right for a 2500+. I have heard these are very good for over clocking so once you got that set you can get the OCin started.

Download a program called everest HERE (http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en)

This is great as you can monitor everything and even has a overclock page telling you the details u need to kno when u come round to it.
