I just setup my new system last night & my CPU temps seems a little high.

I'm getting late 40s on idle & upto 56oC underload.

I am using the latest BIOS & the system is not overclocked & so is at stock volts.

System Spec:
Abit IC7 Max 3
P4 3.2 800
Thermalright SP94 with Enermax 92mm 3/4 pin adjustable fan (at full speed)
Artic Silver 5

I have removed the heatsink, cleaned it up, reapplied AS5 & fixed it again but temps are the same.

I put a thermistor on the side of the SP94 heatsink near the bottom & this was reading between 33-35oC.

I have 2 x 120mm Noiseblockers as intake & exhaust cooling in an Antec P160 Aluminium Case.

Does the probe on the Abit read correct or is it something else ?

Where are you reading the temps from? If it's a piece of software like MBM, then reboot and see what is in BIOS. If BIOS reports temps this high, then I guess it is likely to be a dodgy reading.

Make sure your fans are facing the right way? I know I've accidentally done it myself before ;) .

Thanks for the input - thats the BIOS setting as well as speedfan in windows.

I ran Prime 95 for 9hrs 12mins & the max temp was 56oC - I'm using the latest BIOS too, but have read elsewhere that ABIT & ASUS temps can be as much as 13oC too high.

Seems stable enough - will start overclocking very slowly :)
