hey guys,

i bought this cd drive off a friend, and i cant find the drivers anywhere online. windows xp detects it as only a dvd drive and not a burner. my friend didn't have the cd driver with him so i need to download it.

does anyone know where i can find the drivers? the model is: Artec VPP8D24Q

thanks for all your help :D

Technically, it shouldn't need anny drivers. Do you already have burning software installed? It might need an ASPI layer to be recognised by the OS.

can you elaborate please because i'm not sure what an ASPI layer is. how would i go about sorting this out? i have Nero burning rom software installed, but at the moment it only gives the option of Image Recording, and not actual DVD-RW or CD-RW burning option.

You can download the Adaptec ASPI drivers here (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.jsp?sess=no&language=English+UK&cat=/Product/ASPI-4.70)... and you'll find the Artec drivers page here (http://www.artecusa.com/tech-support-download.html) ;) BTW... it wasn't hard t' find the Artec website... and subsequently the drivers page... in Google

But... are you absolutely sure it's a DVD-Writer you've bought, and not just a plain vanilla DVD-ROM drive  That would certainly explain why NERO asin't recognising it as a writer?
